The Role

We are seeking a Product Designer with systematic thinking and an interest in data visualization to join a dedicated, cross-disciplinary team whose mission is to discover, evaluate, and build shared solutions to empower content creators in telling compelling stories using Morningstar's industry leading research and data. As a designer on this team, you will collaborate with designers across the organization to deliver the next generation of data visualization tools at Morningstar. If you are an experienced product designer who also has experience and interest with data visualization, this role is for you!

This position will be located in our Syndey office; with the ability to be in person attendance at our Barangaroo office location 4 days a week.

The Ideal Candidate:

  • Understands current trends in digital design, and brings fresh thinking to solutions
  • Has experience and a portfolio that demonstrates designing for data-rich digital experiences
  • Approaches design with a systematic mindset to develop solutions that serve a broad range of use cases
  • Can solve challenging information and communication design problems and able to present multiple concepts for consideration, with sound rationale
  • Communicates design direction and executional considerations to designers, developers, and stakeholders through high-fidelity prototypes and other artifacts
  • Makes informed design decisions around typography, composition, color, and other visual elements that support a delightful, engaging experience, while reinforcing the Morningstar brand
  • Can conduct creative workshops, user testing, and participate in market research activities that help inform the direction of initiatives and campaigns


Responsibilities:

  • Create site maps, wireframes, low-fidelity prototypes, task flows, and other artifacts to visualize and communicate design direction
  • Conduct, analyze, and socialize user research, including user interviews and usability testing, so we can better understand the needs of our users
  • Create inclusive experiences by designing and testing the accessibility of each facet of the design
  • Participate in team and organizational activities to define the team’s strategy and roadmap
  • Facilitate and lead internal meetings to understand a problem space and foster a shared vision of the future
  • Communicate design solutions to a broad audience, including designers, engineers, stakeholders, and business leaders


Basic Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of experience working as a digital product designer
  • Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Digital Design, Communication Arts, Human Computer Interaction, Industrial Engineering/Design, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience
  • Expert knowledge of Figma
  • Exceptional interaction and visual design skills with an eye for typographic detail
  • Expert command of identifying and specifying appropriate design patterns and conventions for solving common problems
  • Strong interest in data visualization
  • Ability to prototype at varying levels of fidelity
