At Yazio, our Platform Engineering team builds and operates the infrastructure that enables our product teams to move fast, safely, and reliably.
We are looking for a Senior Platform Engineer who thrives on operating production systems, evolving cloud-native architectures, and designing internal platforms that other engineers depend on daily.
You’ll work closely with Backend and Data Engineering teams, providing the abstractions and reliability foundations that allow them to focus on building product features.
If you enjoy debugging across infrastructure layers, understanding how distributed systems behave under load, and reducing manual operational work through thoughtful automation — you’ll likely feel at home here.
Let’s shape the future of nutrition together and make Yazio the most successful nutrition app worldwide.
This role is 100% remote and open to candidates based in Germany, Spain, Portugal, or the U.K.
YOUR MISSION
You will join a small, senior team and take ownership of production-critical infrastructure across our engineering organization. Your responsibilities include:
- Operating and evolving our Kubernetes landscape (AWS EKS and on-prem via Rancher)
- Maintaining and modernizing self-hosted relational databases (MariaDB and PostgreSQL)
- Designing internal platform abstractions that reduce cognitive load for Backend and Data teams
- Automating manual operational processes and improving deployment consistency
- Improving CI/CD architecture and release safety
- Investigating and resolving infrastructure-level production incidents
- Strengthening observability and monitoring across services
- Contributing to the long-term evolution of our cloud-native platform strategy
You bring strong hands-on experience operating production infrastructure and feel comfortable working below abstraction layers when needed. We are looking for:
- Strong Kubernetes administration and troubleshooting experience (EKS preferred)
- Experience operating production systems in hybrid environments (AWS and self-hosted infrastructure)
- Solid Linux administration and deep debugging skills
- Experience with relational databases in production (MariaDB and/or PostgreSQL, ideally self-hosted)
- Experience designing or maintaining CI/CD architecture and automation
- Observability experience (Prometheus, Grafana, Elasticsearch, or similar)
- Strong programming experience in Go, or in Python with solid software engineering foundations beyond scripting
- Ability to read and reason about upstream code when systems break
- A structured, automation-driven mindset with high ownership in complex environments
- Clear communication skills and the ability to explain technical trade-offs to other teams
Here’s a snapshot of the technologies you’ll work with and operate in production:
- Infrastructure & Platform: Kubernetes (Amazon EKS and on-prem via Rancher), Docker, Linux-based systems, hybrid cloud environments (AWS + self-hosted infrastructure)
- CI/CD & Automation: GitHub Actions, ArgoCD, Ansible, GitOps workflows, infrastructure automation and deployment safety practices
- Databases (Self-Hosted & Managed): MariaDB (business-critical, self-hosted), PostgreSQL, deep operational understanding of relational database systems
- Monitoring & Observability: Prometheus, Grafana, InfluxDB, Elasticsearch, Graylog — with a strong focus on debugging, incident investigation, and system visibility
- Programming & Engineering: Go (preferred within the Kubernetes ecosystem), Python, Bash — with an emphasis on software engineering principles, not just scripting
- Collaboration & Delivery: GitHub, Jira, documentation and cross-team engineering enablement
- An exciting product with millions of users in over 150 countries, localized in 20 languages
- A remote-first culture, working 100% from home with options to join a co-working space or to work from abroad for several weeks
- An international team with English as our company language
- Access to state-of-the-art technical equipment (laptop, external monitor, etc.)
- 30 days of paid vacation
- High-impact work environment with short decision-making processes
- A work culture characterized by focus and efficiency. We do not work overtime and, on the rare occasions this is necessary, you can take the additional hours off at another time.
- Yearly company retreat and additional team events online and offline
At Yazio, we are committed to creating a diverse and inclusive work environment. We believe in equality and encourage applications from all individuals, regardless of gender identity, race, religion, age, sexual orientation or disability. We value the unique perspectives and contributions that individuals from diverse backgrounds bring to our team.
