Your Mission
As an HR Generalist Portugal, you will be responsible for delivering comprehensive HR support across the employee lifecycle, with a strong focus on Labor Relations, compliance, and HR operations.
You will oversee internal governance processes and ensure adherence to Portuguese labor legislation, company policies, and global standards. In close collaboration with external lawyers and agencies, you will provide expert guidance on labor matters while contributing to the overall HR operational efficiency.
As a global organization, this role will deliver “best in class” HR consultancy services to local business leaders and employees in Portugal, as well as to global stakeholders managing teams based in Portugal.
This role reports to the HR Manager and will be based in Lisbon.
What You’ll Be Doing
HR & Compliance Responsibilities
- Be the contact in the company for questions and concerns regarding labor matters. Being completely updated on all labor reforms or modifications that may arise to implement them in the company.
- Be able to prepare and create documents and agreements regarding labor matters that are necessary. Like work calendars, policies, contracts…
- Support business leaders on cases covering all aspects of the employment relationship, such as collective bargaining, disciplinary, complaints, performance, absence, flexible working, redundancy, contractual changes, etc.
- Support information/consultation activity including the relationship with the Workers Councils and Unions when required.
- Define and implement the company's compensation and benefits policy.
- Oversee payroll process with our external agency.
- Ensure HR processes comply with Portugal labor law, internal policies and GDPR, maintaining accurate and up-to-date employee records.
- Monitor changes in labor legislation and support the adaptation of contracts, policies and HR templates.
- Support internal and external audits, maintain HR documentation and contribute to continuous improvement of HR procedures.
- Ensure all HR actions (hiring, terminations, disciplinary processes) follow legal requirements and BYD standards.
- Partner with hiring managers to define headcount needs, role profiles and selection criteria for Iberia positions.
- Manage end-to-end recruitment processes, including job postings, sourcing, interviews, feedback and offer coordination.
- Manage recruitment channels and maintain a strong talent pipeline, ensuring a positive candidate experience.
- Minimum of 5 years of Employee Relations experience, including compensation, flexible working, general policies, contractual changes, etc.
- Degree or Masters in Labor Relations, Legal or similar.
- Knowledge of Portuguese Employment Legislation application/interpretation – including ability to quickly assess potential areas of risk.
- Team worker.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to influence and liaise with all levels of management.
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills in Portuguese and English. Chinese language ability is a plus.
