Platform Engineer – CI/CD & Reliability
Dublin City Centre, Ireland, 2 days a week of remote working
About the Role
Talentspot is exclusively supporting our fintech customer in their search to fill a new position in the company.
They require a Platform Engineer (CI/CD, DevOps & Reliability) to take ownership of their build, test, and deployment processes. This role is foundational to improving system stability, reducing operational risk, and enabling their engineering teams to deliver changes safely and confidently as the company scales.
The role will sit within the Platform Team and work cross-team, interacting closely with infrastructure, data engineering, and risk analyst teams.
This position is anticipated to be a strong mid-level hire, with openness to a more senior candidate where there is a strong fit.
Their system is not high-velocity, but operates in a highly regulated environment where data confidentiality and correctness are critical. While the platform has historically evolved based on manual processes, this approach is no longer sufficient as they scale. Having secured several very large new customers, they are now introducing targeted automation to improve both productivity and system reliability.
As the successful candidate, you will be expected to design and implement modern, robust CI/CD and reliability practices, while also planning and managing the gradual migration of legacy systems.
Environment
- Modern frontend and backend services (React, Python 3, FastAPI) alongside legacy services (HTML/Javascript, Python 2, Bottle.py)
- Fully self-hosted, private cloud infrastructure
- Strong security and regulatory constraints
- Multiple client environments with separate deployments
Key Responsibilities
CI/CD Ownership
- Design, implement, and maintain CI/CD pipelines for multiple services
- Standardise build and release processes across environments
- Introduce automated checks, such as linting, tests
- Own future platform enhancements and modernisation
Deployment & Release Management
- Own and improve deployment workflows across client environments
- Reduce manual steps and improve repeatability
- Document deployment processes and failure modes
- Improve rollback and recovery processes
Quality Enablement
- Introduce pragmatic testing strategies (unit, integration, contract, smoke)
- Work with engineers to improve the testability of services
- Ensure quality gates are part of the release process
Collaboration
- Work closely with Platform engineers to improve reliability and delivery
- Align with Infrastructure on security, networking, and environment constraints
- Support other teams with safer release practices
Required Experience
- 3–6+ years' experience in DevOps or Platform Engineering roles
- Hands-on experience building, deploying, and maintaining CI/CD pipelines
- Ansible and Gitlab
- Experience automating deployments in production environments
- Strong scripting and automation skills (e.g. Python, Bash)
- Solid understanding of testing strategies and release practices
- Gravitas, with proven communication and influencing skills
Nice to Have
- Experience in regulation-sensitive environments, especially finance
- Familiarity with Python-based backend systems is highly desirable
- Salt, Ansible Playbooks and Docker
- Experience working with legacy systems alongside modern stacks
- Experience building platforms from scratch
- Unit integration testing
Seniority & Growth
This role is scoped initially at mid-level, with the expectation that the successful candidate can grow into broader ownership over time. For candidates demonstrating strong experience and leadership, a higher level and scope may be considered.
What This Role Is — and Is Not
This role is: - Ownership-focused and hands-on - Pragmatic and delivery-oriented - About stabilising and improving existing systems for future growth
This role is not: - A greenfield cloud-only role - A purely operational or on-call role - A position relying on third-party infrastructure
Employer Value Proposition
This role offers the opportunity to make visible, high-impact improvements to how the company builds, tests, and ships software. The successful candidate will work closely with experienced engineers and domain experts in a mission-critical, highly regulated product environment.
The company is growing, providing meaningful scope to influence standards, tooling, and ways of working as the platform continues to scale.
You must be eligible to live and work in Ireland (with Dublin commutable 3 days a week) with no time-bound limitations (unfortunately, a stamp 1G Student Visa is time-limited and future sponsorship is not available).
