Job Description
ROLE PURPOSE
Join the Austyn team to build high-performance, intelligent user interfaces for Syngenta's AI assistant platform. You'll craft smooth, responsive experiences that transform complex AI interactions into seamless, intuitive workflows used across the organization.
Accountabilities
The Frontend Developer will be responsible for:
- Build and maintain scalable web applications using Next.js and TypeScript, with a focus on performance, bundle size, and code quality.
- Implement state management using Redux Toolkit (RTK) and Zustand.
- Consume real-time streaming endpoints (SSE) to power live AI interactions in the UI.
- Design fluid, responsive AI-powered interfaces - think streaming text, audio playback, image generation UIs - with exceptional UX.
- Build pixel-perfect, responsive layouts with Tailwind CSS.
- Optimize bundle size, load times, rendering performance, and runtime efficiency.
- Write unit and integration tests ensuring reliability and maintainability.
- Collaborate closely with backend engineers and data scientists on feature integration.
- Participate in code reviews, architectural decisions, and technical documentation.
- Core Expertise: Expert-level TypeScript and modern React (hooks, reconciliation, fiber architecture, concurrent features); advanced performance optimization (code splitting, tree shaking).
- Next.js: App Router, SSR/SSG/ISR, Server Components, Edge Runtime, Streaming, Suspense, middleware, image optimization.
- State Management: Redux Toolkit (slices, reducers, async thunks, middleware, RTK Query, cache invalidation, optimistic updates), Zustand for lightweight local state, context API for scoped state.
- Styling & UI: Tailwind CSS, utility-first design, responsive breakpoints, custom theme configuration, pixel-perfect responsive layouts, browser profiling.
- AI Interface Design: Progressive rendering for streaming responses, conversational UI/UX patterns, error handling for AI failures.
- Real-time: Consuming SSE and streaming responses; rendering progressive/chunked AI output in the browser.
- Testing: Jest, React Testing Library, Playwright/Cypress for E2E, TDD practices.
- Infrastructure & Tooling: CI/CD pipelines, build tool.
- Experience with WebSocket-based real-time communication.
- React Flow (node-based editors), TanStack Table.
- Familiarity with GraphQL clients (Apollo, urql).
- WCAG 2.1 accessibility best practices.
- Sentry/Datadog monitoring and observability.
- Animation libraries (Framer Motion).
- Shadcn/UI, Radix, or Headless UI component patterns.
- Prompt engineering knowledge.
- Visual regression testing (Percy).
- Agile/Scrum workflows.
- Achieving high performance and low "Time to Interactive" in complex AI-driven interfaces.
- Handling asynchronous and streaming AI data flows with intuitive loading states and feedback.
- Maintaining high code quality and test coverage in a fast-paced, innovative environment..

Qualifications
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent practical experience).
Experience
- 3+ years of professional frontend development experience building production-grade applications.
- Proven track record of writing clean, performant, well-tested, and maintainable code.
- Experience designing and building AI application interfaces.
- Strong portfolio or GitHub profile demonstrating expertise in TypeScript, Next.js, React, and AI interfaces.
