The Role
As a Data Analyst you are responsible for the design and development of solutions that meet the analytical needs of the company by developing scalable, performant and extensible data models and data processing pipelines. This drives efficiency, business velocity and compliance across the company data estate. You will be responsible for independent development of analytical products including the pipelines that generate this data. These pipelines (Dagster & Airflow) will result in the creation of a semantic layer (Cube) which will be used to create reports for the FP&A reporting and analytics team. By asking insightful questions, you identify the critical data required to address these challenges, and align transformation with the overall commercial strategy. This demands both technical expertise and an in-depth understanding of business needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Rapidly developing next-generation scalable, flexible, and high-performance data pipelines;
- Driving the implementation of reliable and well trusted metrics defined by the business, connecting disparate datasets into unified data products in the Lakehouse and/or Data Warehouse.
- Have an understanding of a semantic layer and be able to define these metrics within a semantic layer for company wide adaptation of these metrics.
- Producing curated, reusable analytical data products to enable self-serve analytics for many internal customers across departments.
- Modeling data following best practices and Data Warehousing methodologies such as Data Vault and (Kimball) Dimensional modeling.
- Performing Data Governance responsibilities such as technical stewardship, data classification, compliance management, data quality monitoring, and security considerations.
- Maintaining and tuning data pipeline health, including troubleshooting issues, implementing data quality controls, monitoring performance, and proactively addressing issues and risks.
- Supporting product teams in defining the Data Architecture for their domains, from conceptual to physical modeling in the Data Warehouse.
- Building data visualizations to trial/validate data products you build before releasing to consumers.
- Master degree
- Basic Job Knowledge (1 - 3 years)
- Data Pipeline
- Evaluate possible data pipeline solutions by taking into account cost, business requirements, technology requirements and emerging technologies including data modeling like Data vault 2.0 and Dimensional modeling.
- A solid understanding of what is required to set up a performant data pipeline with the tools provided.
- Help grow the business and/or accelerate software development by applying engineering techniques (e.g. prototyping, spiking and vendor evaluation) and standards
- Meet business needs by designing solutions that meet current requirements and are adaptable for future enhancements
- Analytics Engineering
- Be able to translate business requirements into analytical products for the other teams to process
- Understanding or willing to learn FPA its own python dashboard web app for SoX compliance analytics.
- Be able to define semantic models and create them using provided tools.
- Be able to create visuals using the data as is or by using the semantic model that is defined.
- Critical Thinking
- Find solutions to difficult or complex issues by applying different skills and techniques like analytical thinking, lateral thinking, and logical reasoning
- Constructively improve existing ideas, plans and solutions by reviewing them in a critical yet constructive manner, initiating concrete improvements and articulating their rationale
- Continuous Quality and Process Improvement
- Identify opportunities for process, system and/or structural improvements, by applying an understanding of process flows and the methods that can be used to boost effectiveness and efficiency
- End to End System Ownership
- Own a service end to end by actively monitoring application health and performance, setting and monitoring relevant metrics and act accordingly when violated
- Reduce business continuity risks and bus factor by applying state-of-the-art practices and tools, and writing the appropriate documentation such as runbooks and OpDocs
- Reduce risk and obtain customer feedback by using continuous delivery and experimentation frameworks
- Independently manage an application or service by working through deployment and operations in production
- Effective Communication
- Deliver clear, well-structured, and meaningful information to a target audience by using suitable communication mediums and language tailored to the audience
- Achieve mutually agreeable solutions by staying adaptable, communicating ideas in clear coherent language and practicing active listening
- Ask relevant (follow-up) questions to properly engage with the speaker and really understand what they are saying, by applying listening and reflection techniques
- Technical Stack Qualifications
- 1-3 years of experience with data at scale, using python based data pipeline technologies like Airflow, Dagster and Spark. Proficient in SQL dialects like Snowflake and Mysql.
- Solid working experience using Python for multiple applications like web apps(Flask, Dash, Streamlit) or data pipelines.
- Proven experience building analytical models using visualization tools like Tableau or Thoughspot.
- Solid understanding of Data modelling using Kimball and Dimensional Modeling and being able to make this into a semantic layer (Cube & Thoughspot).
