We are currently seeking an experienced Operational Technology (OT) Cybersecurity Consultant with strong NERC CIP expertise to support an enterprise organization undergoing internal reorganization. This role is 100% remote - Atlantic Time Zone, with possible travel to Nova Scotia.
This consultant will play a critical role in maintaining and strengthening OT cybersecurity and compliance activities while helping alleviate workload pressures on internal teams. The successful candidate will be highly organized, self-directed, and comfortable operating within a dynamic, regulated environment.
Location & Work Hours
Location: Remote (Canada), with occasional on-site work as required

Start Date: Targeted Q2 2026
Duration: 6-month contract (with potential for extension)
Hours: Monday to Friday, full-time contract - 7.5 hours per day
The Role – OT Cybersecurity Consultant, NERC CIP
As the OT Cybersecurity Consultant, you will provide subject matter expertise in NERC CIP compliance within a regulated Operational Technology (OT) environment.
You will support governance, compliance, documentation, and framework alignment activities during a period of organizational change. This role requires deep knowledge of NERC CIP standards, strong documentation discipline, and the ability to independently manage compliance deliverables.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide subject matter expertise on NERC CIP standards, including interpretation and implementation guidance
- Support ongoing NERC CIP compliance activities, audits, and evidence preparation
- Organize, maintain, and enhance compliance documentation and evidence repositories
- Take ownership of defined OT cybersecurity governance tasks during organizational transition
- Apply and align cybersecurity practices to recognized frameworks (e.g., NIST CSF)
- Conduct gap assessments and recommend remediation strategies
- Perform minor SharePoint updates (document libraries, permissions, structure, content updates)
- Assist internal stakeholders in improving documentation structure and audit readiness
- Support preparation for regulatory audits or compliance reviews
Mandatory Education & Experience
- Strong hands-on experience with NERC CIP standards (mandatory)
- Proven experience in Operational Technology (OT) cybersecurity environments
- Demonstrated experience supporting regulatory compliance in critical infrastructure
- Experience organizing compliance documentation and audit evidence
- Experience applying cybersecurity frameworks such as NIST CSF
- Working knowledge of SharePoint (document management, basic configuration)
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities
- Must be able to pass a clean background check
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in utility, energy, or power generation/transmission environments
- Previous experience supporting NERC audits
- Knowledge of CIP-002 through CIP-013 standards
- Familiarity with industrial control systems (ICS) and SCADA environments
- Relevant certifications (e.g., CISSP, CISM, GICSP)

- Updated and organized NERC CIP compliance documentation
- Evidence repositories prepared for audit readiness
- Gap assessments and remediation recommendations
- Governance documentation aligned to NIST or equivalent frameworks
- Compliance status summaries and reporting
- Support during regulatory reviews or internal audits
Pay Range (Hourly – Canada)
Intermediate (5–7 years’ experience in area of expertise): $90 – $110 per hour
Senior (8+ years’ experience in area of expertise): $110 – $130 per hour
Rates are dependent on depth of NERC CIP expertise and regulatory experience.
