Job Role: Deputy Project Manager – OHL & Substations

Type of Job: Freelance

Duration: 12 Months (Possible Extension)

Location: Portugal, Ireland & Sweden

Working Pattern: On Site



I am working with an international Engineering & EPC company specialising in the construction of thermal, hydro, solar, wind, and transmission projects. They are actively hiring for a Freelance Deputy Project Manager (OHL & Substations) to support large‑scale EPC programmes across multiple European countries. To be considered, you must have solid experience in transmission systems, substations, grid connection engineering, ideally within utility‑scale renewable energy environments.



Essential Skills:

  • Strong communicator in English; additional European languages are a plus.
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering.
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in transmission system, OHL, or substation design & project management, preferably on PV‑connected assets.
  • Knowledge of local grid rules and standards (E‑Redes, DGEG, or similar regulatory frameworks depending on project country).


Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinating engineering and construction activities for grid connection infrastructure, including OHL, substations, transformers, and associated protection systems.
  • Reviewing transmission system technical documentation and confirming compliance of design, configuration, and contractor execution.
  • Supervising project implementation, ensuring quality, safety, and schedule adherence, and certifying as‑built documentation and progress reports.
  • Supporting technical aspects of procurement, contract scopes, and providing engineering input into project planning, reporting, and risk mitigation.


Qualifications:

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering (Bachelor or higher).
  • At least 2 years of team leadership or coordination experience.
  • Previous experience in procurement, detail design engineering, or project administration within transmission or renewable energy projects.
  • Capability to plan, solve technical challenges, and deliver cost‑effective engineering solutions aligned with regulatory and client requirements.
