Overview
Precisely PlaceIQ Data Scientists design, prototype, and test algorithms that turn hundreds of TBs of raw location data into valuable data products that are accurate and representative of real-world locations, legible to customers, and relevant to critical business applications. We work with datasets rife with unknown unknowns and have limited feedback for training supervised models, so we rely on creative problem solving to develop outside-the-box solutions; our approaches include exploratory data analysis, hypothesis testing, creation of heuristics, and machine learning techniques. To those ends, we also aim to leverage the ever-evolving capabilities of artificial intelligence to solve more problems more quickly, for example, using large language models to standardize unstructured data, or to help discover and tune features for new and legacy ML models. This role is primarily hands-on data analysis and algorithm development (around 70-80%) with the remaining time focused on collaboration, design discussions, and communicating results.
Our findings are built into Precisely's core data products, so the technical skills we look for are a mix of computer science, problem solving, machine learning, and statistics. We are a collaborative team and work closely with engineering, so we value the ability to get deep into the math behind algorithms. We also work closely with teams across the organization, so we look for the ability to communicate technical ideas to non-technical teams. This is a remote position.
What You Will Do
- Explore, cleanse, and assess the quality of data for downstream processing
- Develop creative, scalable solutions for anomaly detection, classification, clustering, drawing inferences from multiple data sources, and other challenges
- Devise experiments and evaluations that test your solutions, even without the benefit of labeled ground-truth data
- Design innovative AI solutions that support our team’s north star: building accurate, usable, and representative location intelligence products
- Create functional and technical documentation of your work
- Collaborate with engineering teams to productionize prototypes
- Communicate results to teams within Precisely and customers
- Masters or PhD in a quantitative field; OR 2+ years of experience in a data science role
- The ability to communicate the value of complex technical work to both technical and non-technical audiences
- Understanding of and familiarity with machine learning techniques like clustering, classification, segmentation, and time series analysis; experience developing standard models into customized solutions for real-world data problems
- Strong coding and problem-solving skills, allowing you to quickly get to the heart of questions and develop insights about data
- Intellectual curiosity, a drive to understand unexplored datasets, and experience ideating solutions to novel problems
- Knowledge and skillset to use generative AI tools judiciously and appropriately in your workflow
