THE COMPANY
August Robotics is an international startup building application-specific robots to automate business workflows. With offices in Australia, USA, Germany, China and Hong Kong, we are backed by leading Asia-Pacific VC investors.
We develop multiple robotic product lines across different sectors and do all R&D in-house.
We are building a software, data and AI team in Melbourne. Your work will have an immediate, tangible impact on real-world robots deployed globally for commercial clients.
THE ROLE
As a data scientist in our core R&D team, you will work with a cross-functional team (hardware, AI, software) to apply statistical and machine learning methods that improve the performance, reliability and intelligence of our robotic systems.
You will contribute across the full development lifecycle — from problem definition and data exploration to implementation, optimisation and deployment — delivering end-to-end solutions.
Your core tasks will include:
· Contributing to technical roadmap planning and system design,
· Using machine learning methods to solve real world problems,
· Analysing large-scale data from our fleets of robots,
· Validating model performance using simulation and live data
· Building data pipelines for ingestion, processing and monitoring of fleet data
YOUR SKILLS
You must have:
· Expert level programming skills in Python and packages such as NumPy, SciPy, pandas, PyTorch
· Knowledge of statistics and Machine Learning techniques and models
· A university degree in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Physics, Mathematics or equivalent
· Familiarity with Linux
In addition to the above requirements, the following skills are helpful (but not required):
· Familiarity with mobile robotics
· Web development frameworks (e.g. Django, Vue.js)
· Capabilities with bash scripting, docker, C++
· Familiarity with network protocols
You should be excited to work in an entrepreneurial culture, open to learning, and willing to jump in and lend a hand on a range of different tasks.
