In this role, you will independently lead R&D projects combining in vitro, clinical, and bioinformatics approaches that drive discovery in the skin microbiome and skincare. You will be responsible for designing and executing studies that uncover mechanistic insights into host–microbe interactions and guide the development of innovative microbiome-based applications for skin health. This also is heavily focused on data interpretation, and close collaboration with R&D scientists and technicians. This position reports directly to the Head of R&D. This position is ideal for someone passionate about translating cutting-edge microbial science into meaningful impact in skincare.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design, execute, and optimize wet-lab experiments focused on the skin microbiome with an emphasis on host–microbe interactions and microbiome dynamics.
• Lead studies from design to interpretation by including molecular biology and multi-omics profiling.
• Develop and refine bacterial or community-level models, including co-culture systems, host–microbe assays, or microbial consortia experiments.
• Perform molecular biology, microbiology, and cell-based assays with rigorous documentation and data analysis.
• Collaborate cross-functionally to integrate experimental findings within the R&D pipeline to improve translation between projects.
• Maintain high laboratory standards, including quality control, experimental reproducibility, and troubleshooting through SOP development and refining
• Communicate results through clear reports, internal meetings, and contributions to publications or patents to technical and non-technical stakeholders.

We are searching for someone with:

• A PhD (or Master-equivalent level degree with equivalent experience) in Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Systems Biology, Immunology, Bioengineering, or a related field with a strong foundation in immunology or host–microbe interaction biology.
• Demonstrated expertise analyzing and interpreting biological data and multi-omics (metagenomics, metatranscriptomics, proteomics), microbial ecology, or bacterial modeling (e.g., in vitro systems, co-culture modeling, microbial interaction networks).
• An expertise in hands-on wet-lab experiments and techniques such as: bacterial and mammalian culturing (aerobic/anaerobic), molecular cloning, qPCR, sequencing workflows, cell-based assays, imaging, or functional characterization assays.
• In depth experience in conceiving, designing, and implementing analytical or bioinformatic workflows is desirable
• Experience working in an industrial R&D setting is greatly appreciated
