We’re looking for a Backend Engineer to join our Wolt Drive team, building and scaling Wolt’s suite of Delivery-as-a-Service products:
In this role, you’ll design, build, and scale backend systems and APIs that power the Wolt Drive product family. You’ll work closely with product, frontend, and operations teams to turn complex, real-world logistics problems into reliable and scalable backend solutions.

We’re looking for a Backend Engineer to join our Wolt Drive team, building and scaling Wolt’s suite of Delivery-as-a-Service products:
- Wolt Drive – our core delivery-as-a-service product that lets merchants tap into Wolt’s courier partner network and offer fast delivery directly from their own ecommerce channels.
- Wolt Parcel – an ambitious early-stage product aiming to reshape traditional parcel logistics across Europe.
- Packages – a consumer-facing logistics service that allows anyone with the Wolt app to send things quickly and conveniently across the city.
In this role, you’ll design, build, and scale backend systems and APIs that power the Wolt Drive product family. You’ll work closely with product, frontend, and operations teams to turn complex, real-world logistics problems into reliable and scalable backend solutions.
Day-to-day in this role you’ll:
- Design, build, and own backend services and APIs supporting customer-facing products, merchant integrations, and internal operations tooling.
- Design and operate high-throughput, low-latency backend systems that handle large volumes of delivery events, tracking updates, and merchant integrations in real time.
- Work on systems that power critical flows such as order creation, delivery tracking, pricing, integrations, and operational workflows.
- Collaborate closely with frontend engineers, product managers, designers, and operations stakeholders to shape solutions end-to-end, with a backend focus.
- Build reusable, testable, and maintainable backend components that can be shared across teams and products.
- Integrate with internal and external systems, ensuring reliability, scalability, and observability.
- Balance short-term product needs with long-term platform health, making thoughtful architectural and technical trade-offs.
- Champion engineering best practices and help raise the bar for code quality and system design.
- Solid experience in backend development using Python (experience with Golang is a plus).
- Hands-on experience with backend systems processing high volumes of events or requests, where reliability and performance are critical.
- Hands-on experience working with non-relational datastores such as MongoDB, Redis, or Cassandra.
- Practical experience with CI/CD pipelines, deployment processes, and cloud infrastructure.
- A proven track record of leading and driving technical projects, from idea to production.
- Strong communication skills.
