We are seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to own engineering execution across multiple product teams contributing to a shared platform. You will drive engineering excellence, foster a culture of collaboration, and guide your teams in building cutting-edge solutions. A critical dimension of this role is enabling your teams to work in an AI-native way - establishing processes, tooling, and training so that engineers increasingly leverage AI coding agents (Claude Code, Codex, etc) as their primary development instruments. You must understand AI-augmented engineering deeply enough to set your teams up for success. This is not a pure people-management role - we need someone who can get their hands dirty with architecture decisions, debug production issues, and jump into code when the situation demands it.

Key Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Multi-team leadership: Own engineering execution across several product teams contributing to a shared platform. Align priorities, resolve cross-team dependencies, and ensure consistent engineering standards
  • AI-native engineering adoption: Improve and roll out processes for specification-driven, agent-augmented development workflows. Amend standards for context engineering and AI-assisted code review. Track adoption metrics and identify where additional support is needed
  • Tooling and enablement: Evaluate, select, and provision AI coding tools for the teams. Manage tool budgets, token usage, and ensure engineers have the best available AI development environments
  • Training and upskilling: Design and run training programs that help engineers transition from traditional to AI-augmented development methods
  • Integration architecture: Contribute to system boundary definitions, API contracts, and integration architecture across platform components. Ensure teams build cohesive, interoperable services
  • Hiring and team building: Drive the engineer hiring process in alignment with budget. Manage onboarding and performance evaluation of both internal and outsourced engineers
  • Capacity planning: Own engineering capacity planning - forecast resource needs, adjust team composition to product priorities, and balance workload across teams
  • Establish and enforce development best practices, including quality gates for AI-generated code (verification, testing, review standards)
  • Monitor engineering KPIs - including AI adoption and delivery velocity metrics - optimize processes, and drive improvements in product quality and team efficiency

Requirements

  • Experience: 7+ years of software development experience, with 3+ years leading cross-functional teams of 6+ members. Experience managing multiple teams or products simultaneously
  • Leadership: Proven track record of managing and mentoring engineering teams, driving hiring, onboarding, and performance management for both in-house and outsourced engineers
  • AI-Augmented Engineering Awareness: Understanding of how AI coding agents change engineering workflows. You don't need to be a daily power-user, but must understand specification-driven development, context engineering, and agent-assisted delivery well enough to set standards, evaluate output, and coach your teams
  • Technical depth: Strong hands-on background in Python, Django, TypeScript, React, PostgreSQL. Able to contribute to architecture decisions, review technical designs, and step into code when needed
  • Architecture & Process: Proficient in system design, integration architecture, and API boundary definition. Solid experience with Agile frameworks, CI/CD pipelines, and DevOps practices
  • Capacity and resource planning: Experience with engineering capacity planning, budget-aligned hiring, and adjusting team composition to evolving product needs
  • Communication: Fluent in English. Able to act as liaison between engineering, product, design, and other departments. Strong written and verbal communication skills
