Lead Frontend Engineer

We’re on the hunt for a Lead Frontend Engineer to shape and scale our client’s next-generation platform from the user interface outward. If you enjoy owning frontend architecture, mentoring engineers, and building high-impact user experiences that scale to thousands of users, this role puts you right at the center of it all.

You’ll lead the technical execution of the frontend ecosystem, delivering fast, intuitive, and scalable user experiences. You’ll influence frontend architecture, engineering standards, design systems, and long-term technical strategy—your decisions will directly shape how users experience the platform every day.

What You’ll Do

• Lead the design, architecture, and development of modern frontend applications
• Own and evolve the frontend architecture with a strong focus on scalability, performance, and maintainability
• Build responsive, high-performance, and accessible user interfaces
• Define and maintain scalable component libraries and design systems
• Drive frontend performance optimization, state management strategy, and rendering efficiency
• Ensure cross-browser compatibility and responsive design standards
• Collaborate closely with backend teams to define API contracts and integration patterns
• Set technical standards, review code, and mentor frontend engineers
• Own frontend tooling, build pipelines, and developer experience
• Establish and enforce strong automated testing practices (unit, integration, e2e)
• Partner with product, design, and leadership on roadmap and technical decisions

Tech

Frontend: React, Vue, or similar modern JavaScript frameworks

Languages: TypeScript, modern JavaScript (ES6+)

State Management: Redux, Zustand, Pinia, or similar

Styling: CSS-in-JS, Tailwind, SCSS, or component-driven styling

APIs: RESTful APIs, GraphQL

Testing: Jest, Cypress, Playwright, or similar

Tooling: Vite, Webpack, CI/CD pipelines

Infrastructure Awareness: Cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure)

Observability: Frontend monitoring, logging, performance tooling

About you:

• 6+ years of professional frontend engineering experience
• Proven experience leading frontend initiatives or teams
• Strong hands-on expertise building scalable, production-grade frontend applications
• Deep understanding of frontend architecture, performance optimization, and UX principles
• Strong knowledge of API integration patterns and frontend security best practices
• Experience with modern build tools, CI/CD, and cloud-native environments
• A proactive, ownership-driven approach to technical decision-making
• Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset
• Based in Amsterdam (or open to occasional on-site collaboration)
• Fluent in English; Dutch is a bonus
