Network Consultant Engineer - Consulting & Design Authority

  • Job Title: Network Consultant Engineer - Consulting & Design Authority
  • Location: London (Hybrid) - expectation of being on client site 3-5 days/week depending on project phase (workshops / implementation / cutover). Travel to customer sites will be required.
  • Employment Type: Full Time
  • Start: ASAP

Overview

A customer-facing Network Consultant Engineer is required to deliver consultancy-led network design and delivery across enterprise and complex environments. This role blends technical design authority ownership (HLD/LLD) with hands-on consulting: running workshops, gathering requirements, producing design artefacts, and supporting implementation and change activity.

This is not a pure pre-sales/bid role and not a support/NOC position.

Responsibilities

  • Act as a Network Design Authority / Technical Design Authority, owning designs from discovery through delivery.
  • Lead requirements gathering, technical assessments, and stakeholder workshops with customer teams.
  • Produce high-quality High Level Designs (HLDs) and Low Level Designs (LLDs), plus supporting documentation and implementation plans.
  • Deliver network consultancy across routing, switching, security and WAN, including migration and optimisation activity.
  • Present solutions clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders (workshop facilitation, design walkthroughs, governance forums).
  • Contribute to network strategy, roadmaps and operating model discussions where required.
  • Support implementation and change execution (including on-site delivery, cutovers, and coordination with wider delivery teams).
  • Create/maintain service design artefacts such as service catalogue inputs, standard designs, and reusable collateral.

Required Technical Skills (Core)

  • Strong enterprise networking background with Cisco technologies such as:
    • Catalyst / Nexus, Meraki, and/or ACI, plus exposure to Cisco ISE and/or Cisco DNA (beneficial).
  • Strong security networking experience with Fortinet:
    • FortiGate (essential), plus FortiManager / FortiAnalyzer (highly desirable).
  • Solid protocol and architecture understanding across:
    • BGP, OSPF, MPLS, SD-WAN, VPN, segmentation, firewalls
    • Data centre networking concepts (EVPN exposure beneficial, not essential unless stated by the client)

Consulting / Delivery Skills (Essential)

  • Proven experience in consulting / professional services roles, with strong customer-facing delivery.
  • Comfortable running client workshops, producing structured outputs, and managing stakeholder expectations.
  • Strong documentation ability across HLD/LLD, service design, technical assessments, and operational handover packs.

Clearance

  • UK security clearance (SC/DV/eDV) is advantageous, however candidates eligible for SC (or holding BPSS with eligibility) will be considered depending on programme requirements.

Certifications (Desirable)

  • CCNP / CCIE (or "CCIE-level" depth)
  • ITIL, TOGAF, CTMP (nice-to-have)

What this role is NOT

  • Not pre-sales only (no "bid-only / RFP-only" profile)
  • Not a sales engineer / account role
  • Not 1st line / service desk / NOC / desktop support

Next Steps: If interested, please send me your most recent CV and contact information so that we can speak in more detail about the role.
