About the role
As the Senior Product Manager Home Lending, you will be the senior subject matter expert in residential mortgage lending, accountable for driving the bank’s home lending strategy, performance, product quality, and operational uplift across all channels.
You will manage a multi-branded home lending portfolio spanning Police Bank and Border Bank, and be responsible for lending performance across direct, digital, and referral channels. You’ll also lead the bank’s engagement in government-backed housing initiatives and manage our relationship with Housing Australia.
This role plays a critical part in supporting our members' path to home ownership and delivering on the bank’s commitment to fairness, affordability, and financial inclusion.
Responsibilities
Strategy & Leadership
- Lead the development and execution of the bank’s home lending growth strategy, including channel performance, product evolution, and member experienc
- Own the lending performance roadmap, pricing strategy, and product evolution to ensure competitiveness and member value
- Be the subject matter expert on mortgage lending — including product structure, pricing, regulatory posture, and performance management
- Direct initiatives that support affordable and supported housing shared equity solutions.
- Own and manage the bank’s relationship with Housing Australia, representing the bank in industry and program engagements.
Product Quality
- Own and manage the end-to-end home lending product suite, ensuring alignment with DDO product governance expectations
- Continuously evaluate the product’s fairness, and operational impact across the Police Bank and Border Bank Home Lending portfolios
- Ensure lending journeys deliver clear, consistent, and value-adding experiences to members, with particular focus on affordability and access for frontline workers.
- Identify underperforming products or features and lead changes through Police Banks governance forums
Lending Operations & Remediation
- Oversee home loan lifecycle management — including origination, fulfilment, data quality, and exception remediation
- Lead the bank’s response to historic issues or systemic failures in home lending, working closely with Legal, Compliance, and Risk
- Drive process enhancements to improve turnaround times and operational efficiency across all channels (direct, digital, and partner).
Policy, Risk & Compliance
- Work with internal Risk and Compliance stakeholders to ensure the Home Lending Portfolio’s full compliance with relevant regulatory obligations, including: Design & Distribution Obligations (DDO,) Consumer Data Right (Open Banking) and Own governance inputs for Pricing Committee, Product Governance, and Board risk reporting.
Member & Community Impact
- Monitor market conditions, policy developments, and member feedback to evolve lending offers accordingly
- Champion home lending policies and journeys that reflect Police Bank’s mutual values of fairness, support, and long-term member benefit
Lending Operations & Remediation
- Oversee the home lending requirements directing the remediation team, ensuring fast and effective resolution of lending issues, data corrections, and compliance risks.
- Identify and implement process improvements across the end-to-end mortgage journey to enhance speed, accuracy, and member satisfaction.
- Collaborate with Credit, Risk, and Operations to reduce turnaround times and improve service levels.
Policy, Risk & Compliance
- Ensure all lending activity complies with applicable laws, regulations, and responsible lending obligations.
- Maintain deep knowledge of APRA, ASIC, ACCC and Housing Australia requirements, and proactively manage operational risk.
- Provide pricing recommendations
Member & Community Impact
- Lead initiatives that help more members access and retain home ownership through inclusive, supportive lending practices.
- Monitor member feedback and housing trends to evolve product offerings and lending strategies accordingly.
About You
- Minimum 7 years' experience in managing home lending products within retail banking or a financial institution
- Strong understanding of housing affordability programs, shared equity schemes, and government-backed lending initiatives.
- Proven record in delivering lending growth and improved operational performance.
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
