About LearnWise AI

LearnWise is a high-growth AI infrastructure platform for higher education, headquartered in Amsterdam, Netherlands, with hubs in Barcelona and Vilnius. We are the "AI plumbing" for over 100 universities and colleges across 24 countries** (including the US, UK, NL, Singapore, and Australia), serving more than 2 million students. Our platform integrates deeply with major learning management systems like D2L Brightspace, Canvas, and Blackboard to automate support and learning workflows at an institutional scale.

We are a team of 40+ dedicated EdTech builders (and growing fast) backed by Emerge Education, the UK’s leading EdTech VC, and strategic angel investors, including former CEOs of major education platforms. We are in a breakout phase: we achieved 5x growth in 2025 and are on track to triple that in 2026. This is a rare opportunity to join a capital-efficient, product-led company that is building the future of education.

You'll work closely with our CTO, CPO, and Engineering team.

Your team:

For this role you will be a key member of our quality and release engineering function. You'll work closely with the engineering team (backend, frontend, and AI engineers) to ensure our products are reliable, well-tested, and shipped with confidence. You will be reporting to the CPO and collaborating daily with the CTO and the engineering team. Team culture emphasizes a high level of autonomy and trust between each member – your decisions will have a significant weight on our quality standards and release process.

Our plans in Lithuania

We're launching a new R&D team in Vilnius, Lithuania. Two of our team members are already based in Lithuania: a Lead Engineer and a QA Engineer. In Q1, we plan to hire 3 additional engineers, bringing the team to a total of five. By the end of the year, we expect the team to grow to around 10 people, depending on business needs and progress. The team will have a dedicated office in Vilnius, with an emphasis on building a strong local culture through collaboration and team activities. Vilnius will work closely with the wider engineering organization, with opportunities for on-sites and team visits to our Amsterdam HQ and Barcelona hub.

Why this role exists

We're scaling fast and shipping AI-powered features to millions of students across 100+ institutions. As we grow, we need robust quality infrastructure and release processes to maintain our high bar for reliability and user experience.

We need a QA automation engineer who can build scalable test automation frameworks, own the end-to-end release process, and ensure our platform is tested thoroughly before it reaches production. Someone who can design and implement E2E test suites in Playwright, integrate them into CI/CD, and drive quality metrics that matter.

This role is about making our products bulletproof, our releases smooth, and our quality processes scalable as we triple our growth in 2026.

What you'll do

  • Build and scale test automation infrastructure. Design, implement, and maintain comprehensive E2E test suites using Playwright (TypeScript/JavaScript).
  • Build reusable test utilities, page object models, fixtures, and helpers that scale across teams.
  • Transition our testing from early-stage to production-grade: improve stability, reduce flakiness, and increase coverage.
  • Own the release process. Coordinate releases with engineering and product: cut release branches, manage release candidates, run smoke checks, and facilitate go/no-go decisions.
  • Document release notes, coordinate deployments, and define rollback plans.
  • Work closely with Brigita and the engineering team to streamline our release workflow.
  • Quality strategy & metrics: Define and execute test strategies across functional, regression, integration, smoke, and exploratory testing.
  • Track and report quality metrics (defect leakage, escape rate, test coverage, test reliability).
  • Identify quality gaps and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
  • CI/CD integration & reliability: Integrate automated tests into our CI/CD pipeline (GitHub Actions).
  • Monitor test stability, debug flaky tests, and continuously improve signal quality.
  • Maintain test environments, test data strategies, and feature flags.
  • Cross-functional collaboration: Work with Product and Design to refine acceptance criteria and test plans.
  • Identify, prioritize, and verify bug fixes with engineering.
  • Advocate for quality best practices, accessibility (WCAG), performance, and security testing.
  • Startup-style ad-hoc work. Jump in on manual testing, exploratory testing, or urgent production issues when needed.
  • Help improve our QA documentation, tooling, and internal processes.

Non-negotiable requirements:

  • You are smart, pragmatic, and love building quality infrastructure and automation frameworks.
  • You can operate both as owner and as executor. At times we need a new test framework designed from scratch - at others, we just need to write test cases for a new feature. You enjoy doing the detailed work (sometimes!).
  • STRONG hands-on experience with Playwright for E2E test automation (TypeScript/JavaScript).
  • Proven track record of building stable, maintainable, and scalable test automation suites in production environments.
  • Solid understanding of QA methodologies, testing strategies, and software development lifecycle (SDLC).
  • Deep familiarity with version control (Git), CI/CD workflows, and modern development tooling.
  • 3+ years of professional software QA experience with a strong focus on test automation.
  • Professional fluency in English (written & spoken).

Important, but with some wiggle room:

  • Experience coordinating or owning release processes with engineering and product teams.
  • API testing experience (REST/GraphQL) using tools like Postman, Insomnia, or Playwright's API testing capabilities.
  • Experience with test frameworks beyond Playwright (e.g., Cypress, Jest, Vitest, or similar).
  • Familiarity with cloud environments (e.g., AWS, GCP, Azure) and containerized test environments (Docker).
  • Strong debugging and problem-solving skills; ability to identify root causes of complex issues.
  • A demonstrable level of mastery of AI tooling. We expect you to know when and how to leverage AI to improve your workflows.
  • Self-driven, highly motivated, and excited about improving higher education with technology!

Nice to have

  • Advanced Playwright features: visual regression testing, trace viewer, video recording, test parallelization, custom reporters, and Playwright Inspector.
  • Experience with accessibility testing (WCAG) and web performance testing fundamentals.
  • Contract testing, component testing, or integration testing experience (Pact, Testing Library, etc.).
  • Familiarity with observability tools (e.g., Sentry, Datadog, LogRocket) to inform test priorities and debugging.
  • Experience testing AI-powered features (LLM outputs, chat interfaces, dynamic content).
  • Experience mentoring junior QA engineers or contributing to a QA community of practice.
  • Prior experience in EdTech or a high-growth startup with a fast-moving product team

How we work

  • Open, asynchronous communication: all communication happens in public channels by default. We have very few meetings and rely on async communication.
  • Strong team spirit: we’re a team full of fantastic humans. Everyone at LearnWise loves and cares deeply about what they’re doing. If you’ve only worked at corporate jobs, the experience can be overwhelming 😉
  • Small team, big ownership: you’ll own features and systems end-to-end. We don’t hold hands or micromanage. We make sure everyone has the support they need to thrive and deliver their best.
  • Quality and speed: “good enough” is often better than perfect. Delivering real value to our customers is often more important than pristine coding practices. We do have refactor-parties sometimes :)

Location & schedule

  • Full-time role in Lithuania with an opportunity to go to the office if and when you want to.
  • Remote is OK
  • Flexible schedule and a “no strict 9–5” mentality, with real respect for work–life balance.

Compensation & benefits

  • Competitive salary
  • Flexible working arrangements, including remote work within Europe.
  • An office in Vilnius for those who don't want a fully remote setup
  • Focus on work–life balance, not clock-watching.
  • Opportunity to build quality infrastructure for cutting-edge AI technology and make a real impact in EdTech.
  • Join team meet-ups globally (e.g., our off-sites like Costa Brava).
  • Comprehensive health insurance package
  • Annual learning & development budget
  • Home office setup stipend
