Our client is a leading Swiss multinational healthcare company headquartered in Basel, Switzerland. Operating in Pharmaceuticals and Diagnostics, it is one of the world’s largest biotech companies and a global leader in in-vitro diagnostics and cancer treatments. Our client is known for its strong focus on innovation, particularly in personalized healthcare, and has played a major role in developing treatments for oncology, immunology, infectious diseases, and neuroscience.
The Role
Our client is currently looking for an experienced Data Engineer (m/f/d) on an initial 12-month contract (with possibility of extension).
The goal is to enable data-driven science and accelerate decision-making across the client organisation. The Scientific Content Team, part of the DDC Data Capability, provides data platforms enabling compliant and streamlined access to large collections of scientific content such as literature text data. These platforms play a central role in supporting innovation in research, development and translational sciences.
Main Responsibilities
- Design and implement ETL pipelines and MongoDB schemas for scientific content data platforms
- Manage document databases, including data curation and FAIRification processes (cleaning, parsing, disambiguation, deduplication, harmonisation)
- Integrate new data sources and develop robust parsers and text-processing workflows
- Maintain and optimise databases, ensuring high quality and compliance of scientific content data
- Improve user experience by contributing to the development of data warehouses and APIs
- Support users in accessing and using datasets through documentation, training and use-case support
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams and communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
Qualifications and Experience:
- Relevant Swiss working/residency permit or Swiss/EU-Citizenship required
- Data engineering, data warehousing and database management experience
- Hands-on experience with NoSQL databases, especially MongoDB
- Strong Python scripting skills
- Experience with ETL orchestration tools (e.g. Airflow)
- Understanding of Text Analytics, Text and Data Mining (TDM), and Large Language Models (LLMs)
- Knowledge of FAIR principles and associated data management methodologies
- Experience working with scientific literature or other text-based datasets
- Exposure to high-performance computing environments is an advantage
- Experience with API development (e.g. GraphQL) is a plus
- Biomedical background or education is considered a plus
- Excellent communication skills in English (fluent), German is a plus
- Ability to work in interdisciplinary teams and communicate with technical and non-technical stakeholders
