Director of Cybersecurity

We are partnering with a crown corporation to identify a Director of Cybersecurity to lead and evolve its enterprise cybersecurity program. This is a newly created leadership role reporting to the CISO and offers high visibility with executive leadership, with the opportunity to contribute to future board-level discussions.


This position is ideal for a senior cybersecurity leader who combines deep technical expertise, strategic thinking, and strong executive communication skills to shape and mature a modern cybersecurity function.

Role Overview

As Director of Cybersecurity, you will lead the organization’s cybersecurity function and play a critical role in strengthening and evolving its security posture. You will be responsible for translating cybersecurity expertise into enterprise-wide strategy, operational excellence, and effective risk communication at the executive level.


This role requires balancing strategic leadership with operational oversight, ensuring security initiatives, controls, and programs are effective and aligned with business priorities.

You will lead a growing cybersecurity team while collaborating closely across IT and technology functions in a highly collaborative, matrixed environment.

Key Responsibilities

Cybersecurity Strategy & Leadership

  • Lead the organization’s cybersecurity function and strategy
  • Develop and implement enterprise-wide cybersecurity strategies and roadmaps
  • Rebuild and optimize cybersecurity operating models and processes
  • Oversee security initiatives, controls, and operational performance
  • Ensure alignment between cybersecurity initiatives and broader business objectives

Executive & Board Communication

  • Present cybersecurity strategies, priorities, and operating models to executive leadership
  • Clearly communicate cyber risk, investments, and strategic direction to non-technical audiences
  • Contribute to future board-level cybersecurity discussions and reporting

Team Leadership & Development

  • Lead and develop a cybersecurity team of analysts
  • Mentor team members and support career development
  • Foster a strong culture of engagement, collaboration, and retention
  • Support long-term succession planning and capability building

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with teams across IT including IAM, data, network, and infrastructure
  • Collaborate within a large and complex technology organization
  • Influence stakeholders across a matrixed environment without direct authority


Qualifications

Required Experience

  • Strong technical background in Information Security / Cybersecurity
  • Proven experience leading cybersecurity programs and teams
  • Experience developing cybersecurity strategy and maturing security operations
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and develop high-performing teams
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, including experience engaging executive stakeholders
