HELSINKI

We are looking for a Software Engineer to join the Loyalty Platform team in SOK’s Loyalty unit. Our primary workplace is our Helsinki office, Ässäkeskus, where we meet several times a week. When your duties allow, you can also work flexibly and remotely for part of the week.

About The Job

S Group’s Loyalty unit is responsible for the customer loyalty program, S-Etukortti, and customer data. Our unit of around 100 specialists develops services used by more than 4 million customer-owners.

You will join the Loyalty Platform team, which builds and maintains platform services used by all development teams in the Loyalty unit. Our team is responsible for areas such as API infrastructure, access management, privacy reporting and observability services. The team has eight people across engineering, QA, and SRE roles working in a cross-functional setup. We favour small, frequent releases and shared ownership of the codebase.

We ensure that other development teams within Loyalty can build high-quality services efficiently and securely. Our success is measured by how well they can leverage the platform services we provide.

You will work on backend development, AWS-based infrastructure, access control, API solutions, and platform capabilities that support dozens of developers. Your work directly improves developer experience, scalability and reliability across the entire Loyalty ecosystem. Days consist of coding, pair or mob programming, design discussions, refining needs with internal teams, and improving the platform. You’ll experience a healthy mix of development work, problem solving and collaboration.

What we’re looking for?

We’re looking for a Software Engineer who already has a few years of backend development experience, preferably in JVM languages (Kotlin) or TypeScript. You’re also familiar with cloud platforms (AWS) and Infrastructure-as-Code tools (Terraform). Ability to work across multiple codebases and technologies is key in this role. Product mindset helps you understand who your service serves and why it matters. In the role, you need fluent English language, and knowledge of Finnish is considered an advantage.

We value especially:

  • Proactiveness, you notice what needs to be done and take initiative.
  • Collaboration skills, you build strong relationships with internal development teams.
  • Problem-solving ability, you enjoy tackling technical challenges and improving developer experience.
  • Learning mindset, we value your curiosity more than years of experience.

Bonus points if you have:

  • Experience using AI agents in software development.
  • API design or API gateway experience.
  • Understanding of OAuth authentication flows.
  • Experience building platform services for other developers.
  • Comfortable working with data-intensive systems and the challenges they bring.

What We Offer You

This role gives you the opportunity to build services that directly support S Group’s loyalty operations used by millions of customers and dozens of developers. You will work with a team of motivated engineers who value ownership, learning and trust. We help and challenge each other, and we work iteratively, focusing on delivering value continuously.

Also:

  • Great work is rewarded, and all our employees are included in a performance-based bonus system.
  • You will have access to Finland’s most extensive employee benefits, which means discounts on groceries, restaurants, hotels, electronics, cosmetics, rainwear, home appliances, or even car washing. You can read more about our benefits here.
  • The S Group is Finland’s largest private employer, so opportunities never run out. Our career paths are often long, sometimes winding, but always full of possibilities.
  • We are safe, stable and Finnish cooperative group. Most of our tax revenue stays in the local area, as does the value generated through procurement and construction. The significant impact of SOK and the entire S Group brings meaningfulness to everyday work.

Employee satisfaction is important to us, and according to our employee engagement survey, as many as 86% of our employees would recommend us as an employer. We are also one of the most attractive employers among professionals in the commercial sector (Universum, 2025). Our work is guided by S Group’s shared leadership promises: I dare, I appreciate, and I deliver.

At S Group, we are committed to fostering a diverse and non-discriminatory working environment where the unique backgrounds, skills, and perspectives of all our employees are respected and valued.
