We are looking for a Senior Backend Engineer (Node.js) to join us as part of our team.

About the role

Our client develops a travel technology platform designed to help travelers automatically save money on flights and hotel bookings after they’ve already purchased them.

Instead of requiring users to constantly monitor price drops or rebook trips manually, the platform continuously tracks travel prices and automatically secures savings when fares or hotel rates decrease — while keeping the same itinerary, seat, and room whenever possible.

The platform integrates with multiple travel services and operates in real time to ensure users never miss an opportunity to save.

As a qualified expert, You will

• Develop and maintain backend services using Node.js
• Design and implement REST APIs and integrate with external services
• Write automated tests for both new and existing functionality
• Integrate with third-party APIs (payment systems, email services, SMS providers)
• Optimize application performance, scalability, and reliability
• Work with MongoDB, Redis, and OpenSearch
• Participate in code reviews and technical discussions with the team
• Maintain and improve the existing codebase, including refactoring when necessary

Must-have skills

• Node.js — 5+ years of commercial experience
• Express.js — building REST APIs, middleware, routing
• MongoDB — Mongoose ODM, aggregations, indexing, query optimization
• Redis — caching, pub/sub, queues
• Testing — unit and integration tests (Mocha, Chai, Supertest or similar)
• Git — branching strategies, code reviews, merge requests
• REST API — API design and third-party integrations

Nice-to-have skills

• TypeScript — typing and migrating JavaScript projects to TypeScript
• GCP (Google Cloud Platform) — Cloud Run, KMS, Cloud Storage
• OpenSearch / Elasticsearch — search and indexing
• Socket.io / WebSockets — real-time communication
• Gmail API / Google APIs — OAuth 2.0, email processing
• Stripe — payment integrations, webhooks
• Twilio — SMS notifications
• Cheerio — HTML parsing
• Handlebars — email templating

Bonus points

• Knowledge of queue patterns and background job processing
• Experience with Passport.js (JWT, OAuth)
• Understanding of web application security principles (OWASP)
