The Work You'll Do

As a Software Engineer, you'll apply a systematic approach to the development, delivery, maintenance, and operation of software products and services that help businesses navigate an increasingly regulated world.
You'll collaborate across the business to understand customer needs and develop high-value solutions—owning both the design and implementation of software that meets functional and non-functional requirements while adhering to established development standards. You'll also serve as a consultant in your area(s) of expertise and continuously grow your skills in a fast-moving, technology-forward environment.

The Work You'll Do

As a Software Engineer, you'll apply a systematic approach to the development, delivery, maintenance, and operation of software products and services that help businesses navigate an increasingly regulated world.
You'll collaborate across the business to understand customer needs and develop high-value solutions—owning both the design and implementation of software that meets functional and non-functional requirements while adhering to established development standards. You'll also serve as a consultant in your area(s) of expertise and continuously grow your skills in a fast-moving, technology-forward environment.
More Specifically, You Will
- Participate actively in all major SDLC activities, including planning, stand-ups, and story time
- Develop skills using TDD and CI practices
- Function as an effective individual contributor, completing tasks independently
- Collaborate with Product Managers, Product Owners, Development Managers, Quality Assurance, Experience Design, and other technical staff to refine requirements and designs
- Participate on cross-functional teams to deliver solutions from inception through customer delivery
- Improve processes, standards, and practices
- Work alongside more senior developers on complex stories and tasks
- Pair program effectively with developers of varying experience levels
- Develop programs consistent with Sovos coding standards and conventions
- Build expertise in at least one specific technical area (e.g., Database, SAP, Web Development)
- Develop competency in at least one Sovos application
- Locate and update relevant documentation when developing
- Triage and resolve straightforward engineering escalations
- Troubleshoot issues and bugs within your application of expertise
- Leverage AI tools and emerging technologies to enhance development workflows and deliver solutions more efficiently
- BA/BS degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field, or equivalent software engineering experience
- Minimum 6–12 months of work experience
- Ability to interact effectively with teammates, colleagues, and customers
- Ability to comprehend and communicate complex concepts
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Proficiency with standard technology tools including computer hardware and software applications
- Curiosity about AI and emerging technologies, and openness to integrating them into day-to-day work
- Minimal travel required to Sovos locations and events
