Job Description

We are seeking a motivated and oriented Substation Engineer with a minimum of 1 year of substation experience to join our team. This position focuses on the delivery of Secondary Circuits design for High Voltage (HV) substations, including CAD drafting, schematic development, and preparation of technical documentation.

The role involves close collaboration with primary engineers, protection & control engineers, project managers, and client representatives to ensure accurate and timely project delivery.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Secondary Circuits Design & CAD Delivery
  • Develop and update secondary schematics and wiring diagrams for HV substations.
  • Produce CAD drawings for:
    • Protection and control (P&C) panels
    • Relay and control schematics
    • AC/DC distribution diagrams
    • Interlocking and control logic diagrams
    • Terminal block layouts
    • Cable schedules and interconnection diagrams
    • Marshalling cabinet drawings
    • Panel internal layouts
  • Support preparation of substation secondary design packages.
  • Ensure drawings reflect project-specific configurations (single line diagrams, bay configurations, protection philosophy).
  • Coordination & Integration
  • Coordinate with primary engineers to integrate secondary systems with primary equipment.
  • Work with protection engineers to implement relay logic and schemes.
  • Support interface coordination between protection panels, Control building, Yard equipment, SCADA / RTU systems.
  • Ensure consistency between SLDs, schematics, cable lists, and panel drawings.
  • Standards & Quality Control
  • Ensure all drawings comply with applicable standards (IEC, ANSI, IEEE, utility standards).
  • Follow company drafting standards and client requirements.
  • Perform internal quality checks before submission.
  • Support drawing revisions based on comments from senior engineers or clients.
  • Documentation & Reporting
  • Prepare drawing registers and maintain revision control.
  • Support preparation of:
    • Bill of materials (BOM) for secondary systems
    • Cable schedules
    • I/O lists
    • Technical submittals
  • Maintain organized documentation aligned with project milestones.
  • Continuous Development
  • Develop knowledge in HV substation secondary systems (protection schemes, interlocking, control philosophy).
  • Support senior engineers in technical tasks to strengthen substation design competence.

Qualifications

Mandatory Qualifications:

  • Education: Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • Experience: Minimum 1 year of experience in HV/MV substations, with exposure to secondary circuits design.
  • Basic understanding of protection and control systems in substations.

Nice to Have:

Technical Skills:

  • Proficiency in AutoCAD (mandatory).
  • Experience with tools such as Revit, ETAP, or similar.
  • Understanding of:
    • Protection schemes (distance, differential, overcurrent)
    • AC/DC auxiliary systems
    • SCADA integration principles
  • Knowledge of IEC / ANSI / IEEE standards.

Soft Skills:

  • Good communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Advanced English (written and spoken).
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage deadlines and prioritize tasks.
  • Proactive attitude and willingness to learn.
