What you’ll do
We have a successful, established design system, but we aren't standing still. We are looking for a Design Systems senior professional who lives and breathes systematic thinking and is ready to architect the next generation of our digital DNA. As a Senior Product Designer at Woolworths, you will be a critical driver in shaping the future of our digital experiences. The Senior Product Designer role works very closely with our design manager, business, engineering and product stakeholders and broader team to comprehensively understand all requirements and objectives. You will utilise your skills in systems thinking, communication and strategy to inform and advise on the solution.
This role specifically is focused on our CORE design system, and will include the creation, governance, and evolution of a comprehensive set of reusable design elements, patterns, and guidelines for our primary banners in Woolworths Group. Your ability to translate different user, business and technical requirements into intuitive and engaging experiences will have a significant impact on how our customers interact with our digital touchpoints throughout Woolworths Group digital experiences.
Key responsibilities of the role include:
User-Centered Design: Conduct user research, analyze data, and advocate for the user throughout the product development lifecycle to inform design decisions.
Product & Component Delivery: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver high-fidelity designs and prototypes for new and existing components across the primary banners.
Systems Foundation: Create and maintain foundational components, design tokens, and patterns to ensure visual and functional consistency across all supported platforms.
Architecture & Scalability: Lead the evolution of the multi-tier design token architecture for seamless scalability across Web, iOS, and Android.
Governance & Evangelism: Improve the system's contribution model, champion design thinking, and track metrics like adoption and developer velocity.
Standards & Tooling: Ensure all design system elements and experiences meet WCAG accessibility standards and drive improvements to design tooling and processes.
What you’ll bring
Core Experience: Extensive experience (6+ years) as a Product Designer, with a strong portfolio showcasing design process and problem-solving.
Design Systems Focus: Direct experience building, supporting, and maintaining design systems is essential.
Education: Bachelor's degree in Design (Interaction, HCI, Graphic) or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
Design Principles: Deep understanding of user-centered design principles, methodologies, and best practices in interaction design.
Advocacy & Influence: Proven track record of advocating for design systems within large organizations, influencing both leadership and contributors.
Skills & Tools: Proficiency in design tools like Figma, with excellent communication, collaboration, and presentation skills.
