This position is for Stadler Digital Labs, a joint venture between Stadler Rail and Critical Software serving as the digital competence center for the Stadler Group.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design intuitive, user-centred interfaces for web and desktop applications used in safety-critical railway systems.
  • Conduct user research activities including interviews, surveys, and usability testing to gather insights and validate design decisions.
  • Translate user needs and business requirements into wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity visual designs.
  • Collaborate closely with Product Owners, Software Engineers, and Systems Engineers throughout the product development lifecycle.
  • Contribute to the creation and maintenance of design systems, component libraries, and UI style guides.
  • Iterate on designs based on stakeholder feedback, usability findings, and technical constraints.
  • Support the definition and documentation of UX guidelines and best practices across teams.
  • Participate in design reviews and present design solutions clearly to cross-functional teams and stakeholders.

Which Brings Us To You, The Person With

  • Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in Interaction Design, Graphic Design, Human-Computer Interaction, Communication Design, or a related field.
  • 1–3 years of professional experience in UX/UI design (Junior to Mid level); internship or academic project experience considered for junior applicants.
  • Solid portfolio demonstrating end-to-end UX design work, including research, wireframing, prototyping, and final visual design.
  • Experience working within agile/scrum development teams.
  • Understanding of accessibility standards (WCAG) and inclusive design principles.
  • Ability to balance aesthetic quality with usability and technical feasibility.
  • Proficiency in Figma (primary tool); experience with Adobe XD, Sketch, or similar prototyping tools is a plus.
  • Experience producing and maintaining design tokens or component libraries.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills;
  • Ability to articulate design rationale clearly.
  • Collaborative mindset with a willingness to give and receive constructive feedback.
  • Detail-oriented, organised, and comfortable managing multiple workstreams.
  • Curiosity and a proactive attitude towards learning new tools and domain knowledge.
  • Adaptability in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary environment.
