Position
You will own the Android side of a consumer-facing fintech application, building native experiences that are performant, secure, and consistent across the Android device ecosystem. You'll work alongside an experienced partner engineering team during the build phase, contributing directly to feature development while building deep familiarity with the codebase. Post-launch, you will be the primary Android engineer responsible for maintaining, improving, and extending the application independently.
Responsibilities
- Build and ship production-quality screens and flows in Kotlin, following Material Design guidelines and modern Android patterns (MVVM, Clean Architecture, or equivalent).
- Integrate with RESTful backend APIs and handle networking, caching, authentication, and error states using established libraries (Retrofit, OkHttp, or equivalent).
- Implement secure data handling practices appropriate for a fintech product: encrypted storage, certificate pinning, biometric authentication, and sensitive data lifecycle management.
- Collaborate closely with Product Design to ensure accurate UI implementation and smooth interaction patterns across the Android device and screen-size landscape.
- Participate actively in PR reviews — both reviewing partner engineers' code and receiving feedback on your own — to maintain code quality and deepen codebase understanding.
- Own the Google Play submission and release process: signing, internal/closed testing tracks, staged rollouts, and production releases.
- Work with QA to reproduce, diagnose, and fix bugs with clear evidence and regression prevention.
- Use AI-assisted development tools (e.g., Claude Code, Codex) as a daily productivity multiplier for coding, debugging, and documentation.
Qualifications
- 2–4 years of professional Android development experience with at least one production app on Google Play.
- Strong proficiency in Kotlin and the Android SDK; solid understanding of Activity/Fragment lifecycle, ViewModels, and Jetpack components.
- Solid understanding of Android application architecture patterns and when to apply them pragmatically.
- Experience with RESTful API integration, JSON serialization, and coroutines for asynchronous programming.
- Familiarity with Gradle build system, dependency management, and build variants.
- Practical experience with Git-based workflows, PR reviews, and issue tracking.
- Strong debugging skills: Logcat, Android Studio profilers, crash analysis, ANR diagnosis.
Would be advantageous
- Experience with payment or financial features in a mobile app (Google Pay integration, POS, secure transaction flows).
- Experience with integration of web first applications to mobile.
- Familiarity with cloud services (Cloud Messaging, Crashlytics, Remote Config).
- Experience with CI/CD for Android (Fastlane, GitHub Actions, or equivalent).
- Familiarity with Jetpack Compose (modern declarative UI).
- Experience working in a collaborative environment where partner/vendor engineers contribute to the same codebase.
