THE RBFA AND BELGIAN FOOTBALLL


As the largest federation in the country, with more than half a million members, the Royal Belgian Football Association represents 4,000 football clubs. Together with Voetbal Vlaanderen and the ACFF, the RBFA organises some 12,000 matches per weekend, including, of course, the national teams' matches. The Belgian Red Devils and the Red Flames are our ambassadors on and off the pitch.

Business Director


THIS WILL BE YOUR POSITION


As Business Director, you play a key strategic and operational leadership role within the RBFA. You lead and develop the Commercial, Marketing and Communication departments, with a clear ambition: strengthen the RBFA brands, engage fans, and drive sustainable commercial growth.


You combine strategic vision with a hands‑on execution mindset. You thrive in a fast‑paced environment, collaborate naturally across departments, and are not afraid to roll up your sleeves.

You report directly to the CEO and are a member of the Direction Committee.

The following tasks will be part of your duties:


Overall Business Leadership

  • Define and steer the overarching business strategy in line with RBFA’s long‑term ambitions.
  • Lead the successful execution of strategic initiatives by translating plans into actionable, results‑driven programs.
  • Build, structure and lead high‑performing teams, ensuring the right capabilities are in place


A. COMMERCIAL

A healthy commercial approach is of utmost importance. You fully lead the commercial division, with a strong focus on value creation, optimisation and long‑term partnerships.


  • Sponsorship & Partnerships
  • Manage & grow key partnerships, ensuring strong activation and long‑term retention.
  • Develop innovative, data‑driven partnership models and value propositions.
  • Hospitality
  • Oversee the hospitality programme for all national team matches and events.
  • Ensure premium, consistent products that enhance both revenue and fan experience.
  • Ticketing
  • Lead the ticketing strategy in close collaboration with the ticketing team to support sales strategies and fan conversion efforts.
  • Integrate marketing and data insights to improve attendance and revenue.
  • Merchandising & Licensing
  • Define and lead the merchandising and retail strategy (online & physical).
  • Develop innovative licensing partnerships to expand RBFA’s brand presence.
  • New Revenue Streams
  • Identify & develop new commercial opportunities (digital products, content monetisation, community initiatives, new business models).
  • Proximus Basecamp Commercialisation
  • Support (not lead) the commercialisation of Proximus Basecamp as a premium football destination (events, experiences, partnerships, visibility).
  • Account Management
  • Ensure best‑in‑class servicing of all partners, with a strong focus on renewal and long‑term value.


B. MARKETING & BRAND

  • Brand Strategy & Positioning
  • Drive and protect the RBFA brands (corporate, national teams, projects, events and grassroots programmes).
  • Ensure long‑term positioning, consistency and strong emotional storytelling.
  • Fanbase Growth
  • Grow the fanbase in size and engagement through insight‑driven and targeted campaigns.
  • Drive initiatives to engage youth, families, and next‑generation football fans.
  • Digital Ecosystem
  • Lead the digital ecosystem: content, social media, CRM, websites, apps and data‑driven engagement strategies.


C. COMMUNICATION

  • Information Sharing
  • Ensure clear, timely and accurate sharing of core football information to fans and the wider public.
  • Proactive Positioning of the RBFA
  • Develop a proactive communication agenda positioning the RBFA as a modern, transparent and fan‑focused federation.
  • Anticipate communication needs and shape narratives around football, governance, competitions & development.
  • Presidential & Executive Communication
  • Support the Executive Office in strengthening the public positioning of the RBFA President, ensuring consistent, strategic communication in Belgium and internationally.
  • Contribute to speechwriting, key messages and media strategy
  • Corporate & Crisis Communication
  • Lead external and internal communication, including media relations, crisis management and corporate announcements.
  • Football Social Responsibility (FSR) Communication
  • Highlight RBFA’s growing role in society via sustainability, inclusion, social programs, and community projects.
  • Ensure FSR communication is visible, impactful, and aligned with UEFA/FIFA frameworks.


D. TEAM LEADERSHIP & ORGANISATIONAL DEVELOPMENT

  • Team Management
  • Inspire and lead multidisciplinary teams across commercial, marketing & communication.
  • Ensure clarity of roles, structure, accountability & execution.
  • Capability Assessment
  • Conduct an initial assessment of team strengths, gaps & potential.
  • Build a roadmap towards a future‑proof, high‑performance team that can deliver on the RBFA’s ambitions.
  • Collaboration
  • Foster strong cross‑department collaboration (sporting, digital, ticketing, events, operations, legal).
  • Promote a strong “One RBFA” mindset.
  • Budget Management
  • Work closely with Finance on budget preparation, monitoring, reporting and invoicing.



DO YOU RECOGNIZE YOURSELF IN THIS PROFILE?


  • Minimum 10 years of experience in commercial, marketing, communication and/or brand leadership roles.
  • Experience in sport is an asset, not a requirement.
  • Proven experience in leading teams and complex stakeholder environments.
  • Strong background in marketing, brand leadership and communication (essential).
  • Experience in commercial leadership, business development partnerships or revenue‑generating roles (strong asset).
  • Strategic thinker with a hands‑on, execution‑driven mindset.
  • Proven people leader and change agent capable of building processes, teams, and cross-departmental collaboration.


  • Strong understanding of digital ecosystems, data and fan engagement.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong stakeholder management and media experience.


  • Your language skillsYou have an excellent knowledge of Dutch, French and English.
