Role Overview

This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic team to support the delivery of Business Intelligence projects. As a Data Analyst, you will be responsible for transforming data into actionable insights, enabling UCC Academy and our clients in making evidence-based decisions.


The role is ideal for a recent graduate with 2+ years’ experience in data analytics, including experience working with Power BI. The successful candidate will work closely with academics and industry professionals in the management and delivery of multi-stakeholder data projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with the establishment and ongoing support of Business Intelligence solutions, ensuring UCC Academy stakeholders are briefed and empowered to use same.
  • Prepare business engagement end user requirements documentation to support the development of Data Architecture models for companywide Performance Scorecards.
  • Build data integrations from source system applications into data models ensuring that refresh frequencies are consistent with operational performance governance timeframes.
  • Using the acquired datasets develop measures to calculate key performance indicators reflecting functional results in Finance, Operational delivery, People and Culture and Customer Experience.
  • Develop visualisation dashboards to provide guided discovery into company performance whilst promoting a user-friendly end user experience.
  • Support production deployments by drafting training materials and hosting end user training sessions before solutions are deployed into the community of business users.
  • Continuously work with UCC Academy stakeholders to identify data and information gaps present across all application environments.
  • Assist with UCC Academy project management activities to close these gaps by implementing SAAS solutions, managing change and expanding the Academy’s Data Warehouse and Business Intelligence solutions.
  • Assist with the establishment and ongoing support of Business Intelligence solutions for clients, ensuring the client teams and all relevant Project Sponsors are briefed and empowered to use same.
  • Manage and maintain existing reports and dashboards, ensuring seamless data refreshes and optimal performance.
  • Track and document end-user queries, issues, and enhancement requests related to Power BI reports, providing timely resolutions and continuous improvements.
  • Develop and maintain a knowledge repository of case studies and key deliverables from solutions developed.
  • Support Business Development.


This list is not exhaustive, and the Data Analyst will undertake other duties as appropriately requested.


Essential Criteria

  • 2 years’ experience as a Data Analyst, with a strong focus on data analysis and reporting.
  • A relevant third-level qualification (e.g. in Business Information Systems, Information Systems Management, Information Technology, or a related field.) or relevant equivalent experience.
  • Proficiency in Power BI, including creating dashboards, data modelling and DAX functions.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret complex data sets.
  • Knowledge of data governance and data quality best practices.
  • Understanding of database management systems and data warehousing concepts.
  • Experience of using Microsoft Office suite to an advanced level including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, and Teams.
  • Excellent written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and stakeholder management skills.
  • Capacity to deal with a wide variety of different tasks and to reprioritise as required.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and rapidly changing environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and organisational skills.
  • Ability to be proactive, use initiative, and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to exercise good judgement and critical thinking skills to support decision making.


Desirable Criteria

  • Experience working in or with higher education institutions or public sector organisations.
  • Understanding of financial modelling, forecasting and reporting.


Conditions of Employment

  • Employment Type: This post is full-time. A six-month probationary period will apply.
  • Eligibility: You must be eligible to work in Ireland to be considered for the role.
  • Salary on commencement: Level 2: €38,000– €52,006 per annum. New entrants to UCC Academy will likely be appointed onto one of the first three points of the scale, subject to experience.
  • Term: 24-month fixed term contract.
  • Annual Leave: 25 Days plus up to 5 discretionary Company Days.
  • Pension: Company Defined Contribution Pension Scheme.
  • Location: Our place of work is the Western Gateway Building, UCC. Onsite presence is required, with opportunities for flexible working when organisation and client needs allow.
