Energetech Trading DMCC is an integrated commodity trading and industrial infrastructure business headquartered in Dubai, operating across Sub-Saharan Africa and the Gulf. We trade across multiple commodity verticals and develop industrial infrastructure projects in some of the world's most complex and high-potential frontier markets — primarily the DRC and Central Africa.

We are a lean, high-conviction organisation. We move fast, operate in environments where most don't, and we are deliberately building AI into the core of how we function — not as a productivity tool, but as operational infrastructure. This role exists because we intend to push that further than most companies our size have attempted.

Why This Role Exists

We believe AI is the great equaliser in frontier markets. A lean team operating with the right AI infrastructure can outperform larger, slower organisations that rely on headcount and bureaucracy. We have already built AI into our deal management, market intelligence, counterparty tracking, and project pipeline. We are not at the beginning of this journey — but we are nowhere near the end of it.

We need someone who looks at what we have built and immediately sees what it could become. Someone who reads about the latest developments in agentic AI, multi-modal systems, and autonomous workflow automation — and thinks about how to apply them to a real, complex, commercially active business operating in frontier Africa.

There are no defined limits to this role. If you can make a compelling case that a new AI capability would give Energetech a commercial edge, we will back you to build it.

The Role

You will be the architect, operator, and strategic lead for everything technical at Energetech — building and owning the technology function from the ground up. You will own our AI systems, maintain and evolve our database infrastructure, manage API integrations, review and quality-control code, and ensure that the technology layer of this business runs cleanly and keeps pace with our commercial ambitions.

You will work directly with senior leadership on a daily basis. Your recommendations will be acted on. Your builds will be used operationally. This is not a support function — it is a strategic one.

What You Will Own

AI Systems

• Own, maintain, and develop our live AI agent infrastructure — built on leading LLM APIs and connected to a persistent operational database
• Continuously improve agent intelligence, data capture quality, structured output accuracy, and context management
• Identify and build new AI capabilities as commercial needs evolve — this is an active, expanding system, not a static one
• Stay ahead of developments in agentic AI, multi-agent architectures, RAG, and autonomous workflow systems and bring relevant capabilities into the business

Database & Backend

• Own the full database layer — schema design, data integrity, performance, backup, and access management
• Ensure the database remains live and accurate as the business operates — deals, counterparties, intelligence, and project records all need to reflect commercial reality in real time
• Build automated workflows that reduce manual data entry and keep the system self-maintaining where possible

API Integrations

• Integrate third-party data APIs — commodity pricing feeds, trade intelligence, logistics data, market information — into our systems
• Manage messaging platform integrations through which our team interacts with AI systems
• Evaluate and integrate new APIs and data sources as commercial need identifies them

Technical Oversight & Advisory

• Review and quality-control code produced by external developers or AI-assisted development tools
• Maintain clear documentation of all systems, integrations, and architectural decisions
• Proactively identify technical debt and manage it before it becomes operational risk
• Advise leadership on emerging tools, platforms, and AI capabilities with a clear commercial lens — not technology for its own sake

What We Are Looking For

Essential

• 3–6 years of experience in software engineering, AI engineering, or full-stack development
• Hands-on experience building with LLM APIs — including prompt engineering, tool use / function calling, structured output, and agent design
• Solid backend skills: Python or Node.js, REST APIs, SQL databases (PostgreSQL / Supabase preferred)
• Experience building AI-powered applications or agent systems — not just using AI tools, but architecting with them
• Ability to operate with autonomy — you prioritise your own work, solve your own problems, and drive the technology agenda without waiting to be directed
• Genuine curiosity about what AI can do — you follow the field, you have opinions, and you build with what is emerging, not just what is established

Highly Desirable

• Experience with multi-agent systems, RAG architectures, or vector databases
• Familiarity with messaging API integrations (WhatsApp Business API or equivalent)
• Experience integrating commodity pricing, financial, or trade data APIs
• Working knowledge of workflow automation frameworks (n8n, LangChain, or similar)
• Prior exposure to trading, commodities, financial services, or emerging market business contexts
• Interest in or experience with Africa — you understand frontier market complexity, not just frontier market theory
