Join a prestigious financial services group on a permanent role and drive engineering and for a well-known platform for advisers and professional partners. In this senior hands on role you will lead and modernise engineering, separating front end and back end and enabling a gradual move to the cloud. You will work directly with an engineering manager and business stakeholders, with genuine influence over technical decisions, tooling and future architecture.
Who you will be working with:
You will be joining an ASX listed, diversified financial services group that provides products and services in the wealth management space. The technology team is small and close knit, led by an engineering manager who acts as both tech lead and mentor.
The team owns a core platform that has evolved over the years and underpins critical processes across the business. You will become the senior engineer on this product, helping set the direction as they separate the front end and back end and progressively modernise the stack.

- Shape the move from legacy PHP and Twig to a React front end and future Node based services
- Influence Docker adoption, CI and deployment practices

- Lead refactoring of a legacy PHP/Symfony codebase, separating front end and back end
- Design and implement a new React based front end while gradually extracting and replacing Twig templates
- Develop, document and maintain RESTful APIs that expose complex business logic cleanly to the new front end
- Introduce and improve Docker based containerisation to simplify deployment, management and updates in production
- Work closely with business stakeholders to understand document and workflow requirements, then translate these into practical technical solutions
- Support and mentor other developers through code reviews, knowledge sharing and good engineering practices including testing and documentation
- Proven senior level experience in PHP (ideally 5-7+ years), strong in modern frameworks such as Symfony, Laravel, Yii or similar and solid OOP principles
- Experience with React and building modern front ends
- Nice to have: Experience with Docker and using containers in day to day development and deployment
- Experience designing, building and consuming RESTful APIs
- Nice to have: AWS exposure, Node.js, Vue, Twig templating
- Solid understanding of relational databases (MySQL), Git based workflows and unit testing tools such as phpunit or Jest
- Strong communication skills, comfortable engaging with stakeholders, explaining trade offs and collaborating in a small, highly interactive team
