Artificial Intelligence is transforming how organisations operate, and Lake Macquarie City Council is embracing that opportunity.
We are seeking anArtificial Intelligence Developerto design and deliver practical, enterprise-grade AI solutions that enhance operational efficiency, staff experience, and digital service delivery across Council.
Working within our Data and Analytics Team, you will develop and implement intelligent solutions including AI-powered assistants, automation tools, and machine learning capabilities using technologies such as Microsoft Copilot, Chat GPT Enterprise, Azure AI, and Power Platform AI Builder.
This is a rare opportunity to work at the intersection of emerging AI technology and real-world impact. Your solutions will help automate processes, enhance decision making, and improve how staff and the community interact with our services.
You’ll collaborate across business areas and with technology partners to build secure, scalable and responsible AI solutions, while also helping uplift AI capability across our organisation through pilots, demonstrations and innovation initiatives.

What You’ll Be Doing
- Designing and developing AI-enabled tools, assistants and automation solutions
- Building and maintaining AI agents, chatbots and intelligent digital assistants
- Integrating AI capabilities with enterprise systems including ERP, GIS, CRM and Microsoft 365
- Implementing machine learning and predictive analytics where appropriate
- Working with technology partners to deliver AI-enabled solutions and integrations
- Supporting proof-of-concepts and pilot projects to explore emerging AI technologies
- Ensuring AI solutions align with governance, security and ethical frameworks
- Producing clear documentation for AI systems, integrations and models
- Supporting the uplift of AI capability across Council through demonstrations and training

You are an innovative technologist who enjoys exploring how emerging technologies can solve real-world problems.
You’re comfortable working across both development and solution design, combining technical skills with curiosity and creativity to build intelligent solutions that deliver genuine value.
You enjoy collaborating with stakeholders to understand challenges, translating them into practical AI-enabled solutions that streamline processes and improve experiences for staff and customers.
You are also mindful of the responsible use of AI, ensuring solutions are secure, ethical and aligned with governance frameworks.
Whether you have worked in enterprise, consulting, or emerging tech environments, what matters most is your ability to build practical AI solutions and continuously explore what’s possible.
You Bring
- Degree qualification in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Science or related field (or equivalent experience)
- Experience designing or implementing AI or machine learning solutions
- Experience with AI platforms or frameworks such as Azure AI, Open AI, TensorFlow, Py Torch or similar
- Experience working with Microsoft technologies including Microsoft 365, Power Platform or Copilot environments
- Programming or scripting capability (Python, JavaScript, C# or similar)
- Experience integrating systems using APIs and modern architectures
- Strong analytical, problem-solving and communication skills
- Understanding of responsible AI, data governance and privacy considerations
- Experience working with Chat GPT Enterprise, Copilot Studio, Power Automate, or workflow automation tools will be highly regarded.
- Competitive salary from $101,090 to $117,483 per year + 12% superannuation
- Commencing salary set in line with skills and experience with annual reviews available to support movement through the salary range
- Annual Enterprise Agreement pay increases apply
