About the Role:

We are looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to join our client at the earliest stage of a UK government-funded startup. They are building a high-impact platform dedicated to gambling awareness and addiction prevention.

As our first Backend Engineer, you will be the driving force behind the platform's architecture. You will lead the design and implementation of scalable, secure server-side logic that powers a seamless experience across iOS, Android, and Web applications.

What You’ll Do:

• Architect from Scratch: Design and build a robust backend infrastructure that supports a multi-platform ecosystem.
• Tech Leadership: Own the technical direction of the product, ensuring high performance and responsiveness to requests from the front-end.
• Cross-Platform Support: Ensure the backend perfectly serves mobile (iOS/Android) and web clients with a focus on data integrity and security.
• Collaboration: Work closely with the UI/UX team to translate user needs into functional, high-quality technical solutions.

Our Tech Stack:

We are looking for someone comfortable with at least one of the following (and open to choosing the best tool for the job):

• Go: (Gin / Fiber)
• Kotlin: (Ktor / Spring)
• Python: (FastAPI)
• Database: PostgreSQL (Expert level)
• Environment: Experience with cloud deployments and supporting high-availability systems.

Who You Are:

• You have 7+ years of experience in backend development, preferably in a startup or greenfield environment.
• You are a "problem-solver first" engineer who understands that the backend is the backbone of the user's trust.
• You are excited about the mission: using technology to tackle gambling addiction and make a real social impact.
