Job Description

What is the opportunity?

RBC Capital Markets is seeking an exceptional Data Scientist to join our trading team. In this strategic role, you will harness sophisticated data analytics and advanced programming capabilities to analyze trading strategies, conduct in-depth research on micro-market structure, and deliver precise, actionable intelligence to enhance trading decisions and performance outcomes.

What will you do?

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop quantitative analytics tools to help to improve trading activities and optimize execution strategies
  • Analyze large datasets to extract meaningful patterns and insights for our trading desks
  • Design and maintain data processing pipelines and database systems using KDB/q, Python, and UNIX environments
  • Create clear, impactful data visualizations that effectively communicate complex market insights with non-technical professionals
  • Collaborate with traders and other quantitative analysts to refine trading strategies
  • Conduct rigorous testing and validation of quantitative models to ensure reliability

What do you need to succeed?

  • Bachelor's or advanced degree in Financial Engineering, Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, or Business Analytics
  • Electronic trading experience, with knowledge of algorithmic trading systems and execution strategies
  • Demonstrated proficiency in data analysis and statistical software including Excel, R, and Python
  • Working knowledge of UNIX environments and KDB/q database systems
  • Strong object-oriented programming skills in Java or similar languages, with expertise in implementing efficient data structures
  • Fundamental understanding of machine learning concepts; familiarity with Large Language Models (LLMs) is advantageous
  • Experience creating impactful data visualizations and translating complex data insights into actionable intelligence
  • Understanding of market structure dynamics in Equity or Macro asset classes
  • Proven problem-solving skills and attention to detail in a quantitative setting

Compensation for this position (including salary and discretionary/variable payments) will be determined by factors, including but not limited to candidate's experience, skills, registration status, performance, individual goals, market conditions, and business needs.

Pay Range

The expected pay range for this position is:

$90,000.00 - $135,000.00
