Contract Product Designer (desktop apps)

Lucky Robots is building the game engine for robotics. Our software generates massive amounts of training data for robot AI using large-scale simulation. Think game engine + robotics + AI.

We are looking for a contract product designer to help design a dense, compact desktop application. This is not a marketing website, mobile app, or admin dashboard.

We are building something closer to:

-Cursor

-Blender

-Figma

-Visual Studio Code

-Unreal Engine

Think cursor meets blender. Ultra dense. Keyboard-first. Power-user software.

What you'll work on

Help designing a high-density desktop interface for robotics and simulation workflows.

Examples of areas:

  • scene graph / hierarchy panels
  • node-based editors
  • simulation inspection tools
  • robotics sensor debugging views
  • timeline and playback controls
  • job orchestration panels
  • training data inspection tools
  • high-density property panels

This is tooling for engineers, not consumer software.

Design Style

We care about:

  • extremely information-dense
  • minimal wasted space
  • fast to navigate
  • keyboard-first workflows
  • many panels and inspectors
  • modular UI systems

Think Blender level density, but clean and modern.

Ideal Background

We are specifically looking for designers who have worked on serious desktop software, for example:

  • developer tools
  • 3D tools
  • game engines
  • simulation software
  • complex data tools
  • design software

Bonus if you have worked on products like:

-Blender

-Figma

-Visual Studio Code

-Unreal Engine

-Unity

Contract Details

  • contract / project-based
  • remote
  • flexible hours
  • work directly with founders and engineers
  • potential for longer-term collaboration if things go well

How to Apply

Send:

  • portfolio
  • examples of dense desktop applications you designed
  • tools you admire and why
