3 month contract opportunity
ICON is one of Australia’s leading communications agencies, with offices in Melbourne, Sydney, and Brisbane.
Due to a number of client wins we are now looking for a Mid-level UX/UI Designer to work across two core streams:
- Optimisation and feature enhancements for existing digital products.
- End-to-end design for new websites, apps, and digital campaigns.
You will help conceptualise, design, and refine user experiences across a variety of sectors, including government and corporate. Working closely with our developers, fellow designers, and project managers, you will ensure our digital solutions are as functional as they are beautiful.
We are ideally looking for candidates based near one of our three office locations in Melbourne, Sydney or Brisbane, however we are open to remote working for the right person. Applicants must be Australian-based.
This is an initial three-month contract, with the potential to extend or transition into a permanent role.
What You’ll Do
Deliver High-Impact UX/UI Solutions
- Create intuitive user flows, wireframes, and high-fidelity prototypes for web and mobile.
- Design interfaces that align with brand guidelines and accessibility standards.
- Apply design thinking to resolve complex user pain points and business requirements.
- Work with project managers to estimate design effort and communicate creative progress and risks.
Build Quality into Design Delivery
- Maintain and contribute to design systems to ensure consistency across all agency projects.
- Participate in internal design critiques, giving and receiving constructive feedback to level up the work.
- Prepare "developer-ready" handoff files with clear documentation, assets, and interaction specs.
- Help improve design workflows, UI kits, and reusable component libraries.
Work Across Projects End-to-End
- Collaborate with developers and content specialists to ensure designs are technically feasible and content-led.
- Conduct lightweight discovery, including user research, persona development, and site mapping.
- Coordinate with the digital team to ensure the final build matches the "pixel-perfect" design intent.
Contribute to Capability Uplift
- Stay at the forefront of design trends, specifically regarding AI-assisted design tools and rapid prototyping.
- Share knowledge with the broader team through show-and-tells and design workshops.
- Support the integration of modern design tools (like Figma) and plugins into our daily workflow.
Skills and Experience
- Proven track record in UX/UI design, ideally within an agency environment or working on government projects.
- Expert-level skills in Figma (including auto-layout, components, and prototyping).
- Strong grasp of typography, layout, colour theory, and responsive design principles.
- A solid understanding of HTML/CSS/JS capabilities (you don’t need to code, but you need to know how your designs will be built).
- Experience designing for accessibility and a deep understanding of Australian Government design standards are major pluses.
- Comfortable presenting your "why" to clients and non-design stakeholders.
- A strong portfolio demonstrating your process.
