FREELANCE Senior Data Scientist
Long Term Contract - Start ASAP

Overview
A leading industrial organisation in Belgium is looking for a Senior Data Scientist to lead high-impact data initiatives focused on operational optimisation, safety analytics, sustainability, and advanced AI applications.
This role requires a data scientist with proven experience applying advanced analytics within industrial environments (e.g. operations, infrastructure, energy, manufacturing, or large-scale physical systems).
You will act as a technical reference for an experienced team of data scientists, providing strategic guidance, ensuring methodological rigor, and driving innovation across multiple projects.
Responsibilities
- Design and implement advanced data science solutions using machine learning, deep learning, and Generative AI techniques
- Develop predictive models and analytics solutions supporting industrial operations, safety monitoring, and energy optimisation
- Work closely with operations, engineering, IT, and sustainability teams to translate operational challenges into data-driven solutions
- Apply advanced analytics to large-scale operational and industrial datasets
- Ensure best practices in model development, validation, and deployment to production environments
- Contribute to the adoption of modern data science tools and methodologies within the team
Requirements
- Degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Artificial Intelligence, or a related field
- 5+ years of experience in Data Science with proven application in industrial or operational environments
- Demonstrated experience applying machine learning and advanced analytics to real-world industrial problems
- Experience delivering production-ready ML solutions within cloud-based data environments
- Strong programming skills in Python and PySpark
- Experience working with large-scale operational datasets
- Ability to translate complex industrial problems into actionable data solutions
- Strong communication and presentation skills
- Fluent in English
