Bank of Ireland is embarking on a journey to transform how it develops software used to support its customers. We're looking for hands on, proactive Lead DevOps Engineers who are strategic problem solvers, but also more than capable to roll up their sleeves and implement key initiatives.
As a senior role, the Lead DevOps Engineer must understand the complex requirements of delivering software in a regulated setting! You need detailed knowledge of the technical components used to develop, validate, and release applications. You must communicate this clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
In This Role, You Will
You will be a strong, technical & proactive engineer who will be responsible for:
- Working closely with the engineering groups to understand their product requirements, how they build / test / deploy their software applications
- Provide guidance on DevOps tools, environments & standard processes to our teams that have been developed by the DevOps Centre of Excellence (DCOE)
- Contribute to the DCOE initiatives, either in the form of documentation and protocols or helping to deliver strategic solutions to the bank that work for our engineering teams.
- You are able to promote DevOps internally within the bank, and be an advocate for clean, rapid & robust software delivery pipelines
- You have an excellent technical background and you can seamlessly move from the presentation deck to the code editor and help realize our strategic ambitions
If You've Done Software Development, We Would Look For
- Strong scripting and development background across languages such as Python, Perl, Ruby, C, C#, Java, and Golang, with solid understanding of associated test frameworks and building applications that communicate through interfaces.
- Hands?'on experience with major cloud providers (AWS, Azure, GCP), including provisioning via portal UIs, and infrastructure automation using Ansible, Puppet, Chef, and Terraform.
- Proficient with CI tools like Jenkins and Bamboo, and familiar with containerization and orchestration technologies including Docker, Kubernetes, and OpenShift.
- Deep understanding of leading and provisioning virtualized infrastructure (e.g., VMware) and strong hands?'on experience with configuration management and orchestration tools
- Skilled in container orchestration platforms like Kubernetes and OpenShift, with solid knowledge of workload lifecycles.
- Strong dedication to test?'first development, composed by real?'world experience dealing with poorly specified or insufficiently tested software.
- Detailed understanding of SSL, cryptography, and automated certificate management solutions.
BSc or MSc in an Engineering based field.

This is a hybrid role, based primarily in Dublin. We typically ask colleagues to spend a minimum of 8 days per month working in-person to support teamwork and connection. Specific arrangements will be confirmed by your recruiter to ensure they meet the needs of the role and team.
