Android Security Engineer – Android Reverse Engineering

As we continue to expand our cyber security capability across Australia, we are seeking a highly skilled Mobile Security Engineer with deep Android expertise to join our growing team.
This role sits at the intersection of mobile engineering and advanced threat analysis, focused on identifying and analysing malicious Android applications. We are looking for someone with strong Android development and debugging skills, combined with hands-on experience in reverse engineering APKs and mobile malware analysis.
You will work with advanced security tooling and frameworks to analyse, decompile, and reverse engineer Android applications, helping detect malicious behaviour, design threat signatures, and strengthen mobile security defences.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform reverse engineering of Android applications (APK, DEX, SDK) to identify malicious behaviour
- Conduct static and dynamic analysis of mobile applications to uncover security vulnerabilities and malware indicators
- Analyse mobile binaries using industry-standard tools such as IDA Pro, Ghidra, Frida and other open-source security utilities
- Perform binary analysis, decompilation, and obfuscation bypass techniques to understand application behaviour
- Investigate suspicious applications and classify threats using Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and threat intelligence frameworks
- Develop threat detection signatures, behavioural rules, and Indicators of Compromise (IOCs)
- Utilise sandbox and automated analysis environments to assess mobile application behaviour
- Support threat modelling and security analysis across Android environments
Required Technical Skills:
- Strong Android development and debugging experience (core requirement)
- Experience analysing Android applications built with Java, C/C++ and Android SDK frameworks
- Hands-on experience with Android reverse engineering and APK analysis
- Strong knowledge of ARM-based architectures and mobile binary structures
- Experience with security analysis techniques including:
- Static Application Security Testing (SAST)
- Dynamic Application Security Testing (DAST)
- Binary analysis and malware reverse engineering
- Decompilation and obfuscation bypass techniques
- Experience designing threat detection signatures, behavioural rules and IOC generation
- Proficiency with reverse engineering and analysis tools such as IDA Pro, Ghidra, Frida
- Scripting and automation experience, preferably Python
