The DSE Platform Independent Common (PI-Common) group owns the development of PI software that operates across Cisco's flagship routers and switches. Our team crafts and builds high-performance system software for a range of Cisco platforms and deliver software solutions for our Mass Scale Infrastructure, Cloud Networking, and Network Experience products.

Your Impact

Responsibilities

We are seeking a talented engineer to join our dynamic team dedicated to developing critical protocols for Cisco products. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in software design, documentation, and implementation, along with hands-on coding experience and a proven track record in software project development. Key responsibilities include:

  • Collaborating with software and hardware engineers to develop and support protocols.
  • Participating in design efforts and contributing to product direction.
  • Representing the team across Cisco departments, with customers, and within the industry.
  • Authoring product and project specifications.
  • Partnering with the leadership team to define and plan projects.
  • Taking a leading role in Cisco's Patent Program.
  • Applying advanced networking principles, theories, and concepts.
  • Supporting the test team with activities such as automation.
  • Leveraging AI technologies and continuously growing your expertise in the evolving AI industry.

Minimum Qualifications (Required)

Master’s degree or Bachelor’s degree with 2+ years of experience in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or related majors. Good experience in developing software, under multi-threaded environment with excellent problem-solving skills

  • Practical experience with Data Structures, Operating Systems and Concepts of Data Networking
  • Programming experience (C, C++), script languages (Perl, Python)
  • Familiarity with Unix/Linux
  • Exposure to development of software for large/complex network devices including routing & switching systems.
  • Good understanding of L2/L3 networking fundamentals. Experience in routing is preferred.

Preferred Qualifications (Good To Have)

  • Experience in any Cisco OS – XR, XE or NXOS would be a plus
  • Familiarity with or experience on VxLAN or EVPN technologies is highly desirable.
  • Exercises good judgement determining how to best achieve technical objectives of assignments
  • Creative problem-solving skills and excellent troubleshooting/debugging skills
  • Excellent teamwork and people skills
