At x-RD, we don’t just build infrastructure; we build the foundations that support the Australian Government and Defence. As a DevOps Engineer, you will sit at the intersection of high-stakes delivery and professional services.

You will be responsible for designing, building, and maintaining the secure delivery pipelines and sovereign cloud infrastructure that underpin our clients' most critical missions. This is a hands-on role where you will act as a trusted advisor, working independently or in small elite teams to help our customers achieve their DevSecOps and AI goals in highly sensitive environments.

What You'll Do

• Infrastructure & Platform Engineering: Design and deploy cloud-native infrastructure on AWS using modern IaC. You won't just build it; you’ll manage production platforms with defined SLAs, ensuring reliability and performance.
• Professional Services Delivery: Execute on Statements of Work for external clients. You’ll scope, plan, and lead technical deliveries, communicating progress and risks directly to key stakeholders.
• CI/CD & Security: Build automated pipelines in GitLab that integrate security scanning and automated testing, focusing on software supply chain security (Chainguard/Sigstore).
• Automation & Development: Write clean, maintainable code (Python, Go, or TypeScript) to automate operational "toil" and improve the efficiency of deployment operations.

What We're Looking For



The Essentials:

• Coding Skills: Demonstrated proficiency in a modern language (Python, Go, TypeScript, or Rust).
• CI/CD Mastery: Proven experience with GitLab CI, GitHub Actions, or equivalent.
• Cloud & IaC: Hands-on experience with AWS and IaC tools like Pulumi, Terraform, or CDK.
• Operational Excellence: Experience managing production systems with SLAs, including monitoring and incident response.
• Client Management: The ability to work autonomously, manage multiple engagements, and speak the language of the stakeholder.

The "Bonus Points" (Highly Desirable):

• Deep experience with Pulumi and Python.
• Kubernetes expertise (managing workloads in production).
• Experience with software supply chain security (SBOMs, Chainguard).
• Familiarity with the Australian Government ISM and security compliance.
• Experience using AI-assisted dev tools (GitLab Duo, Claude Code, Cursor).
• Certifications: GitLab professional or partner accreditations. AWS, Azure or GCP certifications.

Requirements:

• Tertiary qualification in Computer Science, Cyber Security, or a related field.
• Must be an Australian Citizen and able to obtain/maintain an Australian Government security clearance (NV1 or higher).
