Position Summary
This position is primarily responsible to support in designing the ways systems work, mapping out the structure of pages, functionalities and the flow of interaction people need to follow to achieve the expected outcomes. Also contributes with the conceptual development, direction, and visual design.
Key Responsibilities
- Quickly exploring designs ideas and potential solutions to the problems identified via Product Management.
- Support the definition of the direction/concept of the future-state of brand and UI design.
- Produce creative briefs and design concepts for our Guardian web application (Guardian Live) and other Guardian products
- Produce creative briefs and design concepts illustrating different directions for the future-state of the brand and user-interface
- Apply visual design to wireframes and prototypes
- Apply sound UX concepts, including the definition of customer needs, task analysis, and the creation of personas, storyboards, scenarios, user flows and use cases
- Apply the approved the digital brand and identity strategy for our customer facing applications.
- Sketch and wireframe user flows, page layouts, page components and micro-interactions aligned with industry best practices and the design principles established for the project.
- Develop Common UI components, icons, logos, and style guides.
- Work closely with development teams to ensure that design specifications are implemented as designed.
- Have a basic understanding of web development, browser usability and mobile responsiveness to design interactions that support web development and the user experience.
- Translate concepts into designs that illustrate complex system features simply and intuitively.
- Effectively communicate research findings, conceptual ideas, detailed design, and design rationale both verbally and visually
- Participate in and contribute to post project reviews and play an active role in client meetings.
Skills/Experience and Qualifications:
- Tertiary education in visual communication, graphic design, web design or similar field
- Portfolio demonstrating creative work as well as the ability to communicate the value add of such design.
- Demonstrated ability to user design tools such as Miro
- At least 4 to 7 years’ experience in the graphic design, web design or related field
- Demonstrated experience with the most common design software
- A demonstrated understanding of design thinking and user-centred design principles
- A demonstrated understanding of project management and agile delivery processes
- Basic understanding of development matters, what the most common technologies such as HTML, CSS, JS and CMS allow to do
- Ability to manage multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced, constantly changing environment with a demonstrated ability to meet deadlines
- A demonstrated ability to effectively communicate, orally and in writing to a diverse audience
- A demonstrated ability and desire to learn new tools and techniques quickly and continuously
- Demonstrated attention to detail in the preparation and the execution/production of design artefact
- A demonstrated ability to build productive and cooperative working relationships that result in strong operational outcomes
