Junior Data & Analytics Specialist (Embedded | On-Site)
Location: Hybrid working within a major retail environment
Employment type: UCentric employee, embedded with a global retailer
Reporting line: Senior business and operations leadership
Working model: Hybrid, operating as part of the internal business team
About the role
UCentric is partnering with a large multinational retailer to embed a Data & Analytics Specialist into their operations team. This is a hands-on, delivery-focused role designed to improve how data is captured, interpreted, and used to inform decision-making across the business.
The role sits at the intersection of data, operations, and stakeholders. You will work closely with non-technical teams to translate operational problems into structured datasets, dashboards, and insights that drive efficiency, performance tracking, and better decision-making.
Success comes from strong analytical thinking, data fluency, and the ability to operate autonomously in a complex enterprise environment.
What you’ll be doing
- You will own operational and performance data used by stakeholders across supply chain, operations, finance, and commercial teams.
- You will design, build, and maintain dashboards and reporting frameworks that track key metrics and business outcomes.
- You will extract, clean, and analyse data using SQL and analytics tools, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and usability.
- You will partner with stakeholders to understand reporting needs and convert them into scalable, repeatable data solutions.
- You will reduce reliance on manual, spreadsheet-heavy reporting by introducing structured datasets, automation, and improved workflows.
- You will interpret trends, identify gaps, and provide actionable insights that inform short- and long-term decisions.
- You will work within enterprise systems and cloud-based data environments, navigating ambiguity and evolving priorities.
- You will maintain documentation and ensure continuity of reporting and metrics for future handover or scale.
What success looks like
- Stakeholders actively use your dashboards and reporting to make decisions.
- Manual reporting processes are reduced or eliminated.
- Data is trusted, consistent, and clearly understood across the business.
- Reporting shifts from reactive updates to forward-looking insights.
- You are viewed as a reliable, pragmatic data partner rather than a task-based report builder.
Skills and experience
- You have advanced Excel capability, with the judgement to move beyond Excel when appropriate
- You have strong experience using SQL for data extraction and analysis.
- You have proven experience building dashboards and data visualisations using enterprise BI tools.
- You have experience operating in large, complex organisations with unclear or evolving requirements.
- You are comfortable working independently and prioritising without constant direction.
- You communicate clearly with non-technical stakeholders and can explain data in practical terms.
- Experience working with cloud-based data platforms, enterprise systems, or alongside engineering teams is advantageous but not essential.
What this role is and isn’t
- This role is data-focused, insight-driven, and business-facing.
- It suits someone who enjoys ownership, autonomy, and improving inefficient processes.
- It is ideal for a strong analyst who wants their work actively used by the business.
- This role is not a front-end or website development role.
- It is not a pure software engineering or backend API role.
- It is not a junior reporting or purely administrative position.
Why join through UCentric
- As a UCentric employee, you are supported by a recruitment partner that prioritises long-term career outcomes rather than short-term placement.
- You will receive ongoing check-ins and career support.
- You will benefit from clear role framing and expectation-setting with the client.
- You will have an advocate if scope, tooling, or support shifts over time.
- You will gain exposure to the scale, pace, and complexity of a global enterprise environment.
Who will thrive in this role
- This role will suit someone who wants to build and protect their technical analytics skillset.
- You enjoy improving broken or inefficient data processes.
- You are comfortable navigating imperfect systems and ambiguity.
- You value stability, impact, and being trusted to own outcomes.
