Junior Embedded Software Engineer (C/C++) – Apeldoorn – ALTEN Netherlands
The Position
As part of our growing team, we are looking for a talented Embedded Software Engineer to join us in Apeldoorn and contribute to innovative and high-tech projects for leading clients across multiple industries.
As an Embedded Software Engineer, you will design and develop reliable software for embedded systems used in advanced technological environments. You will work closely with multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-performance, secure, and scalable solutions that run on hardware platforms used in sectors such as high-tech, automotive and defence.
Your main responsibilities include:
- Designing, developing, and maintaining embedded software in C and C++
- Developing software for real-time and resource-constrained systems
- Working closely with hardware engineers to integrate software with embedded hardware platforms
- Debugging, testing, and optimizing embedded applications for performance, reliability, and efficiency
- Developing and maintaining drivers, middleware, and low-level system software
- Contributing to system architecture and technical design decisions
- Writing clean, maintainable, and well-documented code following engineering best practices
- Performing code reviews, testing, and validation to ensure high software quality
- Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams including hardware engineers, system architects, and project managers
Your Profile
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree (HBO/WO) in Computer Science, Embedded Systems, Electrical Engineering, or a related field
- 2+ years of professional experience in embedded software development
- Strong programming skills in C and C++
- Experience with embedded systems and low-level programming
- Familiarity with real-time operating systems (RTOS) such as FreeRTOS, VxWorks, or similar
- Experience with hardware interfaces and communication protocols (e.g., SPI, I2C, UART, CAN)
- Experience with debugging tools, embedded testing, and performance optimization
- Familiarity with version control systems such as Git
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary engineering teams
- Fluent in English (spoken and written)
