Profectus is seeking an ICT Network Engineer to support network engineering and operational services within a secure Defence environment in Canberra. This role provides engineering, operational support and lifecycle management for network infrastructure supporting simulation and training systems used across Defence environments. The successful candidate will contribute to the delivery, remediation and transition of networked systems while ensuring compliance with Defence security frameworks and service management practices.


Key Responsibilities

Network Engineering and Operations

  • Deploy, configure, support and maintain network infrastructure components including routing, switching and firewall technologies.
  • Monitor network devices and connectivity using approved monitoring tools and report faults, outages or degraded services.
  • Troubleshoot network issues in collaboration with technical teams and take ownership of issues within areas of responsibility.
  • Support network connectivity across Defence environments including node deployment and device configuration.
  • Assist in maintaining network boundary interfaces and ensure firewall policies comply with Authority to Operate (ATO) requirements.


Service Management and Operational Support

  • Comply with Defence IT Service Management (ITSM) policies and processes.
  • Use ITSM toolsets to manage incidents, service requests and scheduling priorities.
  • Provide accurate updates and documentation within service management tools.
  • Participate in Change Management processes including Change Advisory Boards (CAB).


Collaboration and Technical Integration

  • Work closely with voice and collaboration engineering teams supporting services delivered across network infrastructure.
  • Assist with network requirements supporting collaboration technologies such as VoIP and VTC.
  • Configuration and Knowledge Management
  • Maintain accurate Configuration Management Database (CMDB) records and provide updates to configuration management teams.
  • Contribute technical designs, operational procedures and engineering documentation to knowledge repositories.
  • Support the development and refinement of organisational policies, procedures and technical documentation.


Security and Compliance

  • Ensure network security requirements are implemented in accordance with Defence security frameworks.
  • Handle classified information in accordance with the Defence Security Principles Framework (DSPF) and the Information Security Manual (ISM).
  • Protect Commonwealth intellectual property and comply with Defence information security obligations.


Skills and Experience

Essential:

  • 1–5 years of network engineering or ICT infrastructure experience, or a combination of industry and military experience.
  • Relevant tertiary qualification or vocational certification in Information Technology, Networking or a related discipline.
  • Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) certification or higher.
  • ITIL certification or demonstrated experience working within ITIL service management environments.
  • Experience deploying, supporting and maintaining enterprise network infrastructure.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving capability in complex ICT environments.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with technical teams and operational leadership.
  • Ability to deploy to Australian Defence Force installations when required.


Working Arrangement

Location: Onsite, Canberra

Travel: Some domestic travel may be required during the engagement.


Security Requirements

  • NV1 Security Clearance required
  • NV2 preferred, or eligibility to upgrade
  • Must comply with ITAR requirements
