We are looking for a Backend Engineer to join our growing R&D Engineering team. If you are excited by the idea of building scalable, innovative products, this is the role for you.

As part of a collaborative and fast-paced team, you’ll play a key role in implementing the backend architecture and functionality for our AI interview platform. You will help scale the product by developing robust APIs, integrating GenAI functionality, and building a solid foundation for high-performance, secure, and reliable systems. This is a great opportunity for someone with a strong engineering background who wants to have real ownership, shape product architecture, and contribute to a mission-driven platform.

What you’ll achieve:

  • Build out and scale backend systems for our AI-powered interview platform
  • Design, implement, and maintain production-ready APIs that support AI-driven features
  • Help shape and evolve our system architecture for scalability, reliability, and performance
  • Collaborate closely with the product team to deliver new features.
  • Support and enforce best practices for backend engineering, monitoring, testing, and code quality
  • Work with cloud infrastructure (Azure) to deploy, monitor, and optimize backend services
  • Ensure security, privacy, and compliance in the design and handling of sensitive healthcare-related data
  • Take ownership of features from design to production, with autonomy and accountability
  • Contribute to shaping our engineering culture and infrastructure as we grow


About you:

  • You have 3–5 years of experience in backend development in Python.
  • You have proven experience designing and building API systems in production
  • You have experience working with relational databases, particularly PostgreSQL
  • You are familiar with cloud platforms (Azure preferred)
  • You are familiar with developing LLM-driven applications in production.
  • You hold a University degree in Computer Science or a related field
  • You understand and value software engineering best practices, testing, and CI/CD pipelines
  • You are independent, proactive, and able to deliver features end-to-end with minimal supervision
  • You are fluent in English, both written and spoken
  • You thrive in fast-moving environments where you can take ownership and iterate quickly


Location: This is a Türkiye-based or New Delhi-based role. Surgo is headquartered in Washington, DC, but our team is spread across the US, UK, and India.
