Role Title
Cyber Security Assessor
Fixed-term contract until October 2026 with a high likelihood of extension.
Location
Canberra, Melbourne, Adelaide, Sydney or Brisbane
- Canberra: 5 days per week on site.
- Melbourne, Adelaide, Sydney or Brisbane: 3 days per week on site, 2 days WFH.
- No personal electronic devices permitted on site.
Clearance required
Current AGSVA NV1 (Negative Vetting Level 1)
Company overview
A Defence focused consultancy delivering cyber assessments, assurance and maturity uplift across secure government environments. The team is scaling to support a long standing Defence program and requires security cleared assessors and auditors to deliver DISP focused cyber assessments aligned to the Essential Eight.
Job Description
You will conduct cyber security assessments and audits of ICT environments within secure Defence related settings, reviewing evidence, identifying gaps against control frameworks, and providing actionable remediation guidance. Work is assessment led (not hands on within Defence systems) and balances quality with throughput, with structured shadowing and mentoring in your first 2–3 months.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Conduct cyber security assessments and audits of systems, policies and controls.
- Perform evidence based reviews (reports, logs and documentation) to determine the compliance and maturity level.
- Identify vulnerabilities and control gaps; prepare clear audit findings and technical reports.
- Engage stakeholders across suppliers.
Education/Certifications required
- Relevant tertiary qualifications or equivalent industry experience.
- Highly regarded: CISSP, CISM
Knowledge/Skills required
- Strong experience in cyber assessments/audits within Defence, government or other high?assurance environments.
- Sound understanding of the Essential Eight, DISP and related frameworks (ISO 27001, NIST 800-171).
- Ability to produce concise, high quality reports and communicate with technical and non technical stakeholders.
