Embedded Software Engineer - Portsmouth (Hybrid Working)
Pay Rate: Up to £50 per hour Umbrella / £37.38 per hour PAYE

Our client is seeking an experienced Embedded Software Engineer to join their Advanced Developments team, supporting the creation of cutting‑edge embedded and wireless technology. This is an exciting opportunity to work within a highly innovative environment where you'll help prototype, develop and refine next‑generation embedded systems for high‑profile technical programmes.
Key Responsibilities
As an Embedded Software Engineer, you'll contribute to the end‑to‑end development of embedded software solutions, from initial prototype through to deployment‑ready systems. You'll work daily with C/C++ across bare‑metal and embedded Linux platforms, supporting the development of real‑time solutions and working with a range of modern embedded tooling.
- You will develop embedded software and firmware using C/C++ in both bare‑metal and embedded Linux environments.
- You'll create prototype solutions and evolve them to production standard, configure and deploy embedded Linux systems using tools such as Buildroot and Yocto, and work with U‑Boot, kernel configuration and device trees.
- You will engage in real‑time embedded development using platforms such as Microblaze or RISC‑V and work with Linux device drivers, DMA and interrupts.
Requirements (Essential)
- Strong experience as a Software Engineer, programming Embedded Systems using C/C++
- Background in bare‑metal and embedded Linux environments
- Experience working with Linux device drivers, including DMA, interrupts and device trees
- Knowledge of Digital Signal Processing
- Knowledge of Software Defined Radio
- Security Clearance: Due to the requirements of this role, all applicants must be SC clearance eligible and will need to be cleared before starting.
Work Pattern
- 37 hours per week
- Hybrid: 3 days onsite, 2 days working from home
