We are seeking a highly capable Data Scientist to help transform raw market and internal trading data into actionable insight, robust models and production-ready research that drives trading performance.


Role Overview

The Data Scientist will play a central role in extracting insight from large and complex datasets across market data, execution data and internal strategy performance.


You will work closely with traders, quantitative researchers and software engineers to develop predictive models, improve trading performance analytics and build data pipelines that support research and live trading.


This is a hands-on role suited to someone who thrives in a fast-moving proprietary trading environment and wants their work directly tied to P&L outcomes.

Key Responsibilities


Data Analysis & Insight

  • Analyse large, high-frequency and end-of-day financial datasets to identify patterns, anomalies and opportunities.
  • Build statistical and machine learning models to support trading strategy development and optimisation.
  • Conduct deep-dive performance analysis across strategies, traders and asset classes.
  • Develop predictive and diagnostic analytics to improve execution, risk and capital allocation.


Research & Model Development

  • Support quantitative research through data exploration, feature engineering and model validation.
  • Build and test forecasting models, classification models and signal enhancement tools.
  • Evaluate alternative datasets and integrate them into research pipelines where relevant.
  • Assist in developing robust back-testing and validation frameworks.


Data Engineering & Infrastructure

  • Design and maintain clean, reliable datasets for research and trading use.
  • Build and optimise data pipelines for market, trade and portfolio data.
  • Ensure data integrity, consistency and accessibility across the business.
  • Work with engineering teams to deploy models into production environments.


Performance & Trading Analytics

  • Build dashboards and reporting tools to monitor strategy and trading performance.
  • Analyse slippage, transaction costs, latency and execution quality.
  • Develop tools to measure and improve trader decision-making and systematic performance.
  • Provide ongoing insight into risk, drawdowns and portfolio behaviour.


Collaboration

  • Work closely with traders, quants and developers in a highly collaborative environment.
  • Present findings clearly and concisely to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Contribute to the firm’s research culture and continuous improvement mindset.


Required Skills & Experience

  • Degree in Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering or related field.
  • 3+ years’ experience in data science, quantitative research or analytics (financial markets experience highly regarded).
  • Strong programming skills in Python (pandas, NumPy, scikit-learn, etc.).
  • Experience working with large datasets and building data pipelines.
  • Strong statistical analysis and modelling capability.
  • Experience with SQL and database management.
  • Ability to translate complex data into actionable insights.
  • High attention to detail and strong problem-solving ability.


Highly Regarded

  • Experience in proprietary trading, hedge funds or systematic investment firms.
  • Knowledge of financial markets, derivatives and trading strategies.
  • Experience with time-series modelling and forecasting.
  • Familiarity with cloud infrastructure and distributed computing.
  • Experience building production-ready machine learning systems.
  • Exposure to high-frequency or intraday trading environments.

Pay: $84,610.40 - $106,681.65 a year
