Permanent, Part Time 30 hours per week working the following pattern:

Week 1 - Tuesday and Thursday 9-7, Wednesday and Friday 9-5, Sunday 12-5

This is an exciting development opportunity to work as a Library Supervisor at Bristol Central Library, responsible for supervising a team of library assistants and delivering a high quality customer experience. You will work alongside the Library Group Manager, the weekend Library Supervisor and Librarians to supervise the day-to-day frontline library service at Central Library.

We are looking for a proactive and enthusiastic person, who enjoys working with the public, has experience of working in a library environment, with excellent communication and ICT skills, and a strong commitment to customer care.

The Central Library is an iconic Grade 1 listed building that sees approximately 1000 visitors a day, it is a complex building with seven floors including two public floors and a historic reading room; areas of the library are often used for exhibitions and events. Services from Central Library include a lending library for adults and children, a reference library, research and study spaces, computer areas, a business centre, a café and meeting and hire spaces. The library is also the central hub for the distribution of stock and resources across the Bristol Libraries network of 26 libraries.

Key Duties Are:

  • Supervising the day-to-day running of the library and the deployment of library assistants to ensure the highest level of customer service.
  • Assist the public to gain maximum benefit from the library and its facilities.
  • Respond to requests and enquiries or complaints from the public and communities as appropriate.
  • Motivate the team and manage their performance to ensure delivery of Library Service objectives.
  • Carry out administrative duties, including staff rotas, cash handling, banking, and maintaining financial and human resource records as required.
  • Develop, maintain and promote library stock to ensure it meets the highest standard of quality and increase usage.

Please note that this role is subject to a Standard DBS Check and this post is not suitable for remote or hybrid working. This role is not available for job share.
