We are partnering with an innovative space technology company developing next-generation Earth observation satellites capable of detecting and responding to critical changes anywhere on Earth with unprecedented speed and accuracy. Their capabilities support mission-critical applications across defence, maritime, intelligence, and security sectors.
They are now seeking a highly motivated Engineering Manager to lead the team responsible for satellite fleet planning, a core function that determines how and when the constellation captures and delivers data. This includes image acquisition planning and downlink scheduling across a rapidly growing satellite network.
Fleet planning sits at the heart of mission success. Its effectiveness directly impacts constellation utilisation, data delivery reliability, and overall customer experience. By ensuring the right data is captured and delivered at the right time, your team will enable critical Earth observation capabilities for government and commercial customers worldwide.
As an Engineering Manager, you will play a dual role: setting technical direction while building and leading a high-performing engineering team. You will ensure the delivery of scalable, reliable systems while continuously raising the bar for engineering quality, operational excellence, and business impact.
Responsibilities:
- Lead, mentor, and grow the Satellite Fleet Planning engineering team, fostering strong ownership, accountability, and technical excellence
- Own the design and evolution of scalable planning and optimisation systems for satellite image acquisition and downlink scheduling
- Contribute hands-on to backend development, system architecture, and code quality, ensuring a robust and maintainable platform
- Drive hiring, performance management, and career development, building a collaborative and high-performing team
- Improve engineering processes, ways of working, and cross-functional collaboration across product, mission operations, and other engineering teams
Essential Skills & Experience:
- Proven experience leading and scaling software engineering teams
- Strong hands-on background in backend software development
- Demonstrated leadership capability with a focus on team development and delivery
- Experience hiring, mentoring, and retaining engineers across different career stages
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills in cross-functional and distributed environments
Desirable Skills & Experience:
- Experience deploying and operating software in cloud and on-premises environments
- Domain knowledge in algorithms, optimisation, fleet management, or aerospace systems
- Experience leading teams through technical transformation or organisational change
We welcome applications from international candidates and are able to provide visa sponsorship for highly qualified individuals.
